Research Tools

As part of CITY College community, you have access to a wide range of library resources and services regardless of your location. This guide is intended to provide a basic introduction to the key resources and services available for off-campus members, as well as tools that will facilitate their research.

 

 

Finding Information

ILC Website

The Library website includes detailed information about library collections and resources, services and facilities. It is the main ACCESS POINT to all ILC ONLINE SERVICES.

Online Library Catalogue

ABEKT contains information about material held by the library, such as books, periodicals, theses and audio-visual material. Use the simple or advanced option to narrow your search on specific titles or authors, or conduct a broader subject search. You can link to ABEKT online catalogue from the ILC web site.

 

 

Finding Journal Articles

For an effective research on a specific topic you need to use the ILC’s electronic resources. The ER houses an extensive collection of full text and bibliographic databases, e-journals and digital libraries and ensures desktop delivery of items retrieved from a search.  The e-resources available for remote users are:

EBSCO Databases

Business Source Complete: the world's definitive scholarly business database, providing the ultimate collection of bibliographic and full text content.

Computer Source™: provides researchers with the latest information and current trends in high technology with abstracts and indexing for over 450 periodicals. This database features over 300 full text periodicals covering valuable market information in computers, telecommunications, electronics, programming, artificial intelligence, information systems, and the Internet.

EconLit with Fulltext: contains all of the indexing available in EconLit, plus full text for more than 480 journals, including the American Economic Association journals with no embargo. This database also contains many non-English full-text journals in economics & finance.

Regional Business News™: a supplemental database of Business Source Complete. With daily updates, RBN provides comprehensive full text for regional business publications.

GreenFILE: offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Topics covered include global climate change, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. 

Psychology & Behavioural Sciences Collection: a comprehensive database covering topics in psychiatry & psychology. The database also includes many leading journals in the areas of management and marketing, such as, Advances in Consumer Research, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Leisure Research, Journal of Management Development, Journal of Marketing Research, etc.

Internet Search Tools

Many Internet websites can be valuable sources of information. Useful search engines include:

Google Scholar: the ultimate web search engine that indexes the full text of scholarly literature across an array of publishing formats and disciplines. From one place, you can search: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. Google Scholar helps you find relevant work across the world of scholarly research.

Google Books: search and preview millions of books online from publishers and libraries worldwide.

 

 

MUSE (My University of Sheffield Environment)

MUSE, is the University of Sheffield (TUOS) portal, designed to give students and staff personalized access to digital resources. MUSE allows you to:

  • Use STARPlus, the Library catalogue to search for all electronic & print books, journals, theses, White Rose Research Online (WRRO) content, databases, maps, images & sounds.
  • Use “Articles and Databases” to do literature searches of multiple databases simultaneously.
  • Search Google Scholar and find links to Sheffield’s Library full text context.
  • Send and receive emails and create a personal address book.

 

 

Off-campus Resources & Services

To provide inclusive support, the ILC offers the following resources & services to its off-campus users:

Reference & Research Assistance

Students may contact (email, phone) the Library staff for general information and advice. For assistance with subject requests, it is important to supply as much information as possible about the assignment/project topic. General and Subject queries should be sent to library@york.citycollege.eu

Interlibrary Request Service (IRS)

The IRS offers students, researchers and academics the option to obtain material such as articles, book chapters, conference proceedings and reports that is not part of the library collection, via consortia suppliers.

Document Delivery Service (DDS)

The DDS brings desktop delivery of documents (such as, journal articles, book chapters, etc), through our scanning service. The service is provided for material retrieved from ABEKT Library Catalogue and included in the ILC printed collections.

Weekends (October-May): 11:00 – 17:00
