An increasing number of ebooks and texts are gradually becoming freely available on the Internet. This is a selection of links to e-book service providers and free sites.

Blackmask Online

Over 10,000 online books including classics, fictions, history works, poetry, references, etc. are available in full text, in various formats.

The world's leading source of eBooks. Subscription required to view content.

Electronic Text Centre

Contains approximately 45,000 online and offline humanities texts in twelve languages such as English, French, German, Latin, Chinese, Russian, and Hebrew. Some texts are not publicly accessible.

Free eBooks

Free-eBooks.net specializes in collecting free fiction, tutorial, marketing and business eBooks as well as resources to aid you in promoting eBooks. Registration is required.

Search and find millions of books to preview and read for free.

Knovel

Online interactive books and databases for sciences and engineering. Free trials are offered.

LWWoncology

Contains textbooks and other resources provided by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins that cover medicine and related topics. Subscription is required and free trials are available.

National Academies Press

Over 2,500 books can be read online free from National Academies Press, which publishes works from National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council, etc. Covers a great variety of subjects.

OAIster

Provides free access to a wide range of full-text resources made available by the academic community. You can search and retrieve books, journal articles, technical reports, preprints, theses, working papers, audio files, images, etc., by harvesting digital resources from over 100 research libraries and institutions worldwide.

Contains more than 12,000 English works in various formats. The site only indexes books that are full text, free, and not copyrighted. Users can search or browse the listings by author and title, subject, new listings. There are three special exhibits: A Celebration of Women Writers, Banned Books On-Line, and Prize Winners On-Line.

The Oxford Text Archive hosts AHDS Literature, Languages and Linguistics. It collects, catalogues and preserves high-quality electronic texts for research and teaching. The Oxford Text Archive currently distributes more than 2000 resources in over 20 different languages, and is actively working to extend its catalogue of holdings.

A resourceful electronic archive containing extensive electronic texts of light literature, classical literature, historical documents, reference tools, etc. The database is searchable and the texts can be downloaded.
