Seminar on 'Education and Technology' by Mr Hatziapostolou at Noesis

Mr. Thanos Hatziapostolou, Senior Lecturer at our Computer Science Department, delivered a very interesting seminar entitled ‘Technology and Education’ that took place at NOESIS Technology Museum in Thessaloniki, 22 April 2013.

In his presentation, Mr. Hatziapostolou presented a series of web tools that teachers can use to adapt new technology in the classroom in order to facilitate their work, increase student motivation and participation - since traditional teaching often cultivates a passive role -, receive better feedback, train students to use technology and improve the overall educational process.

The speaker explained the use of each tool and their advantages to both the students and the teachers. The demos of some of the tools required the audience’s participation with the use of their smartphones. The outcome was quite impressive.

When asked, Mr. Hatziapostolou commented: “If teachers are willing to be trained and embrace technology in their classes, students of every age are sure to benefit from the many tools and skills technology can offer. However technology should complement the traditional educational methods and not overwhelm the educational process”.

The seminar was addressed to teachers of different levels of education and concluded with a vivid Q&A session.
