Karate for CITY Women at Warehouse gym

In support of women’s empowerment and body control

Aiming at promoting gender equality and women’s body awareness, control, and empowerment, the International Faculty CITY College and CITY’s Student Union (CSU) organised a successful self-defense event on the International Women’s Day, 8 March 2019 at Warehouse gym in Thessaloniki.

The class was delivered by our student Ms Kristy Giannakou, CSU Officer for Public Relations and Karate gold medalist in Greek National Karate tournaments, who volunteered to offer a self-defense training session with more than 20 students attending. The class was intentionally guided by a woman, aiming at showcasing an inspiring example of female power, combating gender stereotypes on women’s participation in martial arts. Martial arts help women learn, control and have power over their own body.

Participants enjoyed the class and had the chance to familiarise and practice themselves on basic defense moves.

Special thanks to Mr Nerantzis Nikolaos Mallidis, Bachelor's and Master's alumnus of the International Faculty, who volunteered for the event and assisted Ms Kristy Giannakou!
