Guest Lecture by Ayming International HR Manager on effects of extreme changes on HRM

Students of the Business Administration & Economics Department and the Executive MBA programme of CITY College, University of York Europe Campus had the extraordinary opportunity to attend an online presentation by Mr Harro Bosma, International HR Manager - Central European Region (Germany, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia) at Ayming, on the effects of extreme changes on HRM and business survival. The numerous audience followed this event as part of the third-year Human Resource Management unit led by Dr Giovanni Serafini.

Thanks to his remarkable experience, Mr Harro Bosma examined cases on the impact of recession, abrupt legislation changes, Brexit, and the pandemic, on HRM. These circumstances must be seen as drivers of change forcing businesses to diversify and enhance their agility and adaptability. During black swan events such as Covid-19, businesses need to strengthen HRM by nurturing trust and engagement across the workforce. In this context, careers should be built with a 'black swan mindset' based on adaptability, resilience, and creativity. This compelling presentation stressed the importance for students to join learning organisations while warning them of the dangers of being in a comfort zone. It was an outstanding event bringing a key industry voice to classes at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus.
