Digital Skills Workshop: Our students help seniors embrace technology

  • CITY College student-volunteers became tutors at a Senior Citizens Centre (KAPI) to help the elderly familiarise with new technologies.

  • The workshop took place in the context of the ‘ALL-LINE’ project run by CITY College, University of York Europe Campus in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Digital Transformation and Digital Skills Center (DT&S) – Cisco.

  • The initiative is in line with CITY College’s public engagement philosophy aiming to give back to society by sharing knowledge and being in service.

A group of student-volunteers of CITY College had the opportunity to become teachers of seniors for a day in the workshop organised at the Senior Citizens Centre (KAPI) of Lagadas to familiarise participants with the digital world and new technologies and embrace digital skills. Our ‘student-teachers’ helped seniors better use their mobile devices (mobile phones or tablets) and get acquainted with the digital services of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. Mr. Michael Koupkas, Deputy Mayor for E-Governance at Thessaloniki Municipality and Mr. Vasilis Moisidis, President the Senior Citizens Centres of the Municipality of Thessaloniki warmly welcomed our students. Dr Nikos Tsorakidis, Deputy Vice-President for External Engagement and Partnerships at CITY College and Dr Dimitris Dranidis, Head of our Computer Science Department accompanied our students at the workshop and offered their valuable guidance. Mr. Agathoklis Vatzias, Operations Manager at Digital Transformation and Digital Skills center (DT&S) – Cisco (Διεθνές Κέντρο Ψηφιακού Μετασχηματισμού και Ψηφιακών Δεξιοτήτων) was also present at the workshop.
