Built on the success of the previews years, Summer School 2024 on “Global displacement, human rights and unequal development” was organised by CITY College, University of York Europe Campus 27th of June until the 4th of July 2024.
The summer school focused on critical humanitarianism and the limitations posed on the migrants’ ability and even ‘right’ in the eyes of the public to express and perform parts of their identity beyond that of refugees or asylum seekers. Participating students came together to think about, discuss the topic. Discussions were carried out in various formats: workshops, lectures, experiential approaches and on-hands experiences both indoors and outdoors. Students got the most out of this exciting experience.
The Summer School included a series of lectures and speeches by academics from the University of York and the University of Sheffield, workshops, as well as field trips which includeda tour at the Castles of Thessaloniki, as well as a day trip to the archaeological site of Dion and Litochoro.
