Psychology students gain hands-on experience at Alzheimer Hellas “St Helen” Day Centre

Students from the MA in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of York Europe Campus recently visited the “St Helen” Day Centre of Alzheimer Hellas, which supports individuals in the early stages of dementia, along with their caregivers and families.

The visit, led by Dr Ekaterini Klepousniotou, Associate Professor in Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuropsychology and Director of Postgraduate Programmes in Neuropsychology at the Department of Psychology, offered students a valuable opportunity to bridge theory with practice in a real clinical setting.

During the visit, students actively engaged in the Centre’s daily programmes, interacted with patients, and observed neuropsychological assessments conducted by experienced psychologists and neuropsychologists. This immersive experience provided meaningful insight into the realities of dementia care and clinical neuropsychological practice.

The University extends its sincere thanks to Dr Magda Tsolaki, President of Alzheimer Hellas, for facilitating the visit to the Day Centre. Special appreciation is also extended to Dr Elena Poptsi, Maria Vasiloglou, Litsa Mpakoglidou, and Panagiotis Liapis, the psychologists and neuropsychologists at the “St Helen” Day Centre, for their warm welcome, insightful discussions, and for providing such a valuable learning experience for our students.

This visit reflects the University of York Europe Campus’ commitment to experiential learning and to preparing future professionals in neuropsychology through meaningful engagement with clinical practice.
