How can I search

 

 

 

OpenABEKT

OpenABEKT is the new and upgraded version of the library catalogue. It comes as a complete cloud service and offers a dynamic experience for searching and retrieving items. The catalogue is open and visible, navigation is intuitive, browsing and searching are flexible and available for all fields. 

The online catalogue and is the key for locating items and managing your loans. It contains full records of books, periodicals, theses and audio-visual material. 

  • Search by a specific Title, Author, Subject
  • Search by Publisher, Series, Date
  • Search by Classification

The information OpenABEKT Online Catalogue gives for each item is:

  • Which Collection holds the item
  • The Classification number of the item
  • Number of Copies
  • Brief contents of the item
  • A brief abstract or summary
  • Whether or not the item is available (Charged/Not Charged)

 

 

Search options

Books
Use the “Simple Search” option to type a keyword, title, author, etc or use the “Advanced Search” option to combine search terms (ex. title and author). Type your search term(s) in the appropriate box(s).

Dissertations
Select the “Advanced Search” option – click on the “Subject” field and type “dissertations” in the search term box and a keyword in the “Title” field to retrieve a list of available dissertations under a specific title.

Use the “Simple Search” option to search for dissertations on a specific Course (ex. Marketing, Advertising & PR). Type one of the following classification codes in the search term box “Classification” and all related dissertations will be retrieved on the screen.

Finding the items on the shelves

In order to locate titles on the shelves, remember to write down the Call Number (ex 158.3 PAS), the Collection (ex MNC) and the Subject Area: (ex. Psychology) of the item that you want to find. Depending on the type of collection you may be able to borrow it or not.

Types of collections:

RSC (Reserve Collection) Textbooks and Recommended Readings Study in the Library
RFC (Reference Collection) Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, etc Borrowable

Follow the signage in the ILC to find specific collections and items on the shelves. Colored labels on the shelves show the subject categories of each Collection. On the spine of the books you will see class numbers. Each item has its unique number. Use the class number you have written down from the online catalogue to locate your specific item.

If you still can’t find an item on the shelves

  • Check the “Book Returns” stand – where you will find items waiting to be shelved. If not there, ask for help at the Library Services Desk as the item may be misplaced, lost or on loan by another user.
  • In case it is on loan you may place a reservation request and you will be notified by email or telephone, the minute the item becomes available.
