Research Ethics in the Business Administration and Economics Department of the CITY College, University of York Europe Campus.
Research undertaken within the Business Administration and Economics Department (BAED) should be conducted according to the ethical standards and regulations of the CITY College, University of York Europe Campus Research Ethics policy governing research involving human participants and personal data. The policy is based on the Code of Practice on Research Integrity and the Code of practice and principles for good ethical governance of the University of York.
Abiding by the CITY College, University of York Europe Campus Research Ethics’ rules and procedures it is obligatory for all students to submit an online application for approval by the Department’s Ethics Committee before embarking on primary data collection. Academic Staff need to review and decide whether students’ research classifies as high or low risk before the form is submitted to the Ethics Committee for approval. It is important to keep in mind that no data collection is allowed to take place before receiving ethics approval. In case this happens, the research is not accepted and the students need to repeat data collection after obtaining formal ethics approval.
The department will do its best to timely communicate to you the Ethics review decision, on average within 10 working days. However, delays can occur if a research ethics application form is not fully completed, if the ethics reviewers request more information, or in case the ethics application is declined.
The main period for submission of applications annually is between June 1st-June 25th. Applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis. The first round of submitted applications will be fast processed between June 10th-16th June and the second round between June 17th-22nd. Any remaining applications will be processed within 2 weeks of submission and up until the summer break.
Additional periods for submissions of ethics applications are February 1st-28th (ONLY for full-time cross semester students) and September 1st-25th.
All information related to submitting the online application can be found in the Dissertation Handbook, including the specific documents that need to be uploaded. Students should make absolutely sure to use the link provided to them in the handbook only and not use links from other Departments, as they will need to reapply again and face major delays. Please note that Neuromarketing students need to read through the specific guidelines related to their specialisation, including the documents that need to be uploaded.
