Dr Nikoleta Damaskinou

My first degree is from the Pedagogical University of Athens. After few years in the classroom, I continued my studies in the UK with Psychology at the University of Cambridge, (Darwin College), and a Masters in Special Educational Needs, specialising in the psychology of reading and learning difficulties, at Brunel University. Then with my PhD, with full scholarship, at the University of London, (RHUL), I investigated the brain asymmetry and the ability of middle childhood children to recognise basic emotions in faces (Neural correlates of facial emotion recognition, and the chimeric faces test (CFT), with ERPs and neuropsychological research). Finally, I specialised in Occupational Psychology with an MSc in Occupational Psychology at the University of Worcester, UK. I am, currently, visiting Lecturer in Psychology at ΑΠΘ in Thessaloniki, Greece, and a Research Associate at the Neurosciences Laboratory of the Department of Psychology, University of Crete, collaborating with Professor Ms. Yakoumaki and Dr. Antypa on an ongoing research project on Memory Function and Schizotypal Traits: Deficits in Context Memory and Reconsolidation, Neural Correlates, and Informed Intervention. Furthermore, I worked as a visiting Lecturer at RHUL, Department of Psychology and as a Senior research Consultant with the Melian Dialogue consultancy, in London.

In addition, I am training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) at the medical school of the University of Crete in Heraklion.

I have presented my research at international conferences, funded by the British Psychological Society and Society of Experimental Psychology, such as ECPD (Lithuania), SRCD (Quebec, Canada), ISSD, (Shanghai), and BPS, (London and Scotland).

I have publications in major scientific journals (Child Development, Laterality), as well as in METHEXIS, Thessaloniki, with the book "Do we play Phonology?" which is a training program for children's phonological awareness  skill (a cognitive skill lacking in children with learning difficulties).
