Dr Stamatopoulou and Dr Dranidis participate in International Conference on Education in Lisbon
Dr Ioanna Stamatopoulou, Lecturer, and Dr Dimitris Dranidis, Senior Lecturer at the Computer Science Department of the International Faculty, participated in the International Conference on Education and New Developments that took place in Lisbon, Portugal, 24-26 June 2017. Dr Stamatopoulou and Dr Dranidis successfully presented their academic papers attracting the interest and positive feedback by the event’s participants. Focusing on computer science students’ employability skills, the paper presented by Dr Stamatopoulou was entitled ‘Developing a graduate employability profile: how do we ensure we deliver what we promise?’ and was co-authored by Ms Anna Sotiriadou, Head of the Computer Science Department, and Prof. Petros Kefalas, Vice Principal for Learning and Teaching at the International Faculty, CITY College. Dr Dranidis discussed the importance of entrepreneurial skills of computer science students and suggested ways with which they can be further enhanced in his insightful presentation entitled "Strengthening computer science students’ entrepreneurial skills: a step forward". The paper was co-authored by Mr. Thanos Hatziapostolou, Senior Lecturer at our Computer Science Department. Alongside teaching, our academic staff is highly involved in academic research, promotes dissemination of knowledge, liaise with the wider academic community and works towards the exchange of ideas with their peers. Participation in global international conferences enables the effective dissemination of the latest research findings to the benefit of the academic community and society at large. The International Conference on Education and New Developments (END) is a high impact International Conference which accepts 30% of the submitted papers and runs under the umbrella of the World Institute for Advanced Research and Science (WIARS). It attracts educators who are interested in research methods related to teaching, learning and applications, and aims at promoting growth in research methods intimately related to teaching, learning and applications in Education nowadays.

The International Faculty CITY College signs the ‘Boris Trajkovski’ MBA Scholarships Agreement with the Ministry of Education and Science
On the 28th of June 2017 in Skopje Mr. Yiannis Ververidis, Principal of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, Mr Gjorge Ivanov, President of the country and Prof. Renata Deskoska, Minister of Education and Science signed a protocol of agreement for the ‘Boris Trajkovski’ MBA Scholarships 2017-18. The scholarships agreement includes twenty (20) MBA scholarships for students from FYR Macedonia for the Executive MBA programme delivered in Thessaloniki for the admission year 2016-17. Under this common initiative the two parties involved aim at providing an exceptional educational opportunity to students who wish pursue a globally recognised MBA degree from the University of Sheffield. The Boris Trajkovski EMBA scholarship programme was co-founded by the International Faculty and the country’s Government and has been running for the past eight years. Ms Papakonstantinou presents paper at International Conference on Education in Lisbon
Ms Aggeliki Papakonstantinou, Senior Lecturer and Academic Undergraduate Director of the Business Administration and Economics Department of the International Faculty CITY College presented at the International Conference on Education and New Developments that took place in Lisbon, 24-26 June 2017. The paper submitted to the Conference was written together with Dr. Suzie Savvidou, Director of Undergraduate Programmes in Psychology & Clinical Placements at the Psychology Department of the International Faculty, CITY College, and presented successfully to an international community of educators. The title of the research is Eyes wide open: exploring faculty perceptions about student progression and retention in higher education. The research was warmly accepted by the audience and they encouraged the authors to continue in a wider scale. Our lecturers often participate in various International Conferences all over the world, present their research work and liaise with other academics and promote the dissemination of knowledge. MBA Scholarships 2017-18 for FYR Macedonia students The Ministry of Education and Science of FYR Macedonia and the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College are jointly offering twenty (20) full MBA scholarships for the Executive MBA programme running in Thessaloniki, Greece for the Academic Year 2017/18. The programme leads to the prestigious MBA degree of the University of Sheffield. The deadline for the application and submission of the required documents is Friday, 21 July 2017. Prof. Ketikidis participates in EU Parliament event co-hosted by AREC of the University of Sheffield
Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis, Vice Principal of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY Colllege, participated as panelist in the high-level event 'Pathway to Global Policy, Industry and Societal Impact on Resource Efficiency' hosted by the Advanced Resource Efficiency Centre (AREC) of the University of Sheffield and White Rose Brussels (WRB). The event took place on Tuesday, 27 June 2017 at the European Parliament in Brussels. The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Lenny Koh from the University of Sheffield who presented AREC - the global resource efficiency challenges and how AREC helps to address them. This event aimed at showcasing the research excellence and impact performed by AREC towards achieving environmental sustainability, resource production and consumption efficiency, and maximising its outreach globally. Graduation Party 2017
Graduation is a time to celebrate! On 22 June graduates of year 2017 celebrated the conclusion of their studies and said ‘goodbye’ with a party organised by our Students’ Union (CSU). The graduation party was held at Omilos bar in Thessaloniki. In a nice atmosphere, with music, drinks and fun our graduates left behind their memorable years at the International Faculty CITY College, a time to remember and cherish for life. Academic and administration staff from the International Faculty attended the joyous occasion, congratulated all graduates and wished them all success in their future endeavours. Prof. Ketikidis participates in SEVE’s Export Summit V in Thessaloniki
Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis, Vice Principal for Research, Innovation and External Relations, of the International Faculty, CITY College, and Chairman of our research centre, SEERC, participated as moderator in one of the largest events for Greek exporters in Thessaloniki, the 5th Export Summit. Attracting more than 1.300 participants he event was organised with great success by the Greek International Business Association (SEVE) and took place 15 June 2017 at the Makedonia Palace Hotel. Themed “Adding Value to Exports: Certification. Labelling, Packaging, Transport and Distribution Networks” the Summit featured distinguished presenters from the public and private sector. With their insightful presentations the speakers illustrated all aspects of adding value services to exports with the goal of assisting public institutions and private companies to realize its importance and develop efficient strategies for their utilization. Professor Panayiotis Ketikidis, moderated the last panel of the Summit on ‘Transport & Distribution Networks, E-Commerce’ which marked the completion of the event. Export Summit V brought together business executives from various sectors as well as public officials – among them Mr Yiannis Boutaris, Mayor of Thessaloniki, Ms Maria Kollia-Tsaroucha, Deputy Minister of Interior (for Macedonia & Thrace), Mr. Theofanis Papas, Vice Governor for AgroEconomy of Central Macedonia and many others. The International Faculty recognises the value of extroversion and is highly involved in local and national organisations and associations, a practice that is inherent in the Faculty’s philosophy to create stronger bonds between industry and academia. International Faculty graduate at the celebrations of The HM The Queen’s birthday in Athens
Our graduate, Mr. Nikolaos Tsokanos, was invited by the British Embassy at the British Ambassador's Residence in Athens to join the celebrations of the HM The Queen’s birthday among other distinguished guests, on Thursday 15 June 2017. Nikolaos was among the 9 alumni of UK universities to be selected from all over Greece to participate as presenters in the UK Alumni Innovation Showcase at the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens, who were honoured to be also invited at the reception celebrating the birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II. During the event, the British Ambassador to Greece, Ms Kate Smith referred to the 9 alumni of UK universities attending the event as examples of how British education helps students to succeed and follow their dreams even in turbulent times. At the event Nikolaos had the opportunity to showcase the innovative solutions and strategies applied by his company, TSOKANOS SA, while at the same time highlighted the important role his studies at the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield has played in his professional success. The glamorous event was well attended by distinguished guests, politicians, entrepreneurs, representatives of the local administration and many others.

Google Study Jams successfully completed at the International Faculty CITY College
Google Study Jams was successfully completed in early June, after 6 intensive sessions, at the International Faculty CITY College in Thessaloniki, with the final project presentation of 9 android apps by individual and group participants. Google Study Jams was organised by the Computer Science Department of the International Faculty in collaboration with GDG Thessaloniki, and attracted approximately 150+ participants. The Study Jams presented two different courses, the ‘Udacity Android Development for Beginners’ and the ‘Google A/B testing’ course, giving the opportunity to registrants to attend the Google tailored course of their particular interest. The Google Study Jams were led by Certified Google Developers Experts and were completed in 5 weeks +1 demo-day. Participants had to attend one session per week and worked towards the development of an android app project. At the closing of the Google Study Jams all passed participants received an Udacity Certification. With this initiative the Computer Science Department presented a unique educational opportunity to those who wanted to learn the basics of Android and Java programming, and take the first step on your journey to becoming an Android developer, as well as to those who wished to learn more about Google A/B testing tools and use them to create business insights. This first Google Study Jams that took place at the International Faculty served also the Computer Science’s and the International Faculty’s mission to liaise academia with the industry, bridge the gap knowledge and practice and enhance its extroversion.

Graduate of the International Faculty at the UK University Alumni Innovation Showcase in Athens
Organised by the Onassis Scholars' Association, the British Embassy and British Council Our graduate, Mr Nikolaos Tsokanos, was among the 9 alumni of UK universities to be selected to participate as presenter at the UK Alumni Innovation Showcase that took place Tuesday, 13 June 2017 at the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens. Organised by the Onassis Scholars' Association, the British Embassy and British Council the event featured success stories of innovative Greek alumni from UK universities – Mr Tsokanos among them - who stayed in their country and achieved success in their field, despite the difficult conditions in Greece. Mr Tsokanos, who is owner and General Manager of Veterinary Wholesaler - TSOKANOS SA, shared his inspiring story, presented the case of his business, the success factors and his attitude towards entrepreneurship and innovation in Greece. He also spoke about how his studies at the International Faculty CITY College helped him succeed as a professional and the importance of quality education. Mr. Tsokanos completed the BA (Hons) in Business Studies (Accounting and Finance) at the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College. The event took place takes place within the framework of the first ever Innovation Week in Athens under the auspices of the Secretarial General of Research & Innovation - Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs. The International Faculty congratulates Nikolaos on his participation in this event and on being a great alumni ambassador, setting an example as for students and future graduate of the International Faculty CITY College.
