This comes as a natural evolution of our maturity as the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield and signals our integration with the University. The new logo portrays our academic identity as a Faculty of the University of Sheffield, it creates immediate understanding of who we are, and at the same time keeps in balance our International Faculty CITY College brand. University of Sheffield rises in QS World University Rankings top 100
University of Sheffield ranked 82nd best university in the world, 26th in Europe and 13th in the UK The University performed among the top 9 per cent in the QS World University Rankings University of Sheffield is one of only five of the 16 ranked Russell Group universities to improve its position in this year’s rankings The University of Sheffield has been named one of the best universities in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2018, reaffirming its position as a leading global university for teaching and research. The rankings recognise the University as the 82nd best university in the world, 26th in Europe and 13th in the UK. Of the 16 Russell Group institutions that are ranked in the QS top 100, the University of Sheffield is one of only five to improve its position from last year. The University of Sheffield International Faculty offers the programmes of a Top 100 University across South East and Eastern Europe The University of Sheffield is the only Top 100 World University to offer its highly recognised degrees through its International Faculty CITY College, in South East and Eastern Europe. This prestigious global ranking clearly reflects the quality of education offered by the University of Sheffield International Faculty and confirm the reputation of the University of Sheffield degree our graduates receive. The University - which has a global reputation for leading the way in inspiring its students and staff to achieve excellence, make a difference and change lives through discovery and understanding - performed among the top 9 per cent in the QS World University Rankings. The QS global ranking provides a definitive guide to the world’s 959 top universities. The expert opinion of 75,015 academics and 40,455 employers contributed to the 2018 edition of the rankings. 12.3m papers and 75.1m citations were analysed to measure the impact of the research produced by the universities ranked. As well as ranking highly for academic and employer reputation, the international students indicator was the strongest for the University of Sheffield. The University ranked 64th in the world for this indicator, which is based on the proportion of students that are international. The University of Sheffield has previously been recognised for providing outstanding support for international students and has shown its longstanding commitment through its global #WeAreInternational campaign, which highlights the crucial value of international students to the UK. The campaign, which is now backed by more than 150 universities and international organisations, was jointly founded by the University’s President and Vice-Chancellor and its Students’ Union. President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, Professor Sir Keith Burnett, said: “It is encouraging to see that The University of Sheffield is again rated so highly in this global ranking of universities. Despite the outstanding development of universities in Asia and other parts of the world, our University is rightly known internationally for the standard of our scholarship and teaching, but also for the pioneering ways we work with industry and other partners to improve the economy and people’s lives. “Education is a crucial long-term investment for the public good. The International Faculty CITY College achieves ‘Green Impact Award’
Congratulations to the International Faculty - CITY College Green Impact team for earning the International Faculty, CITY College, the "Working towards Bronze" Green Impact award! Green Impact is a pro-environmental behaviour change programme running in the UK and abroad. Our team joined the rest of the Green Impact teams of the University of Sheffield and participated in Green Impact by submitting all environmentally sustainable activities and initiatives taking place at the International Faculty, including recycling paper,batteries recycling, raising awareness for environmental issues and many more. This was the first time for the University of Sheffield to have the first Green Impact team from the International Faculty, CITY College to participate in this important international initiative for environmental sustainability. In the University of Sheffield Green Impact is one of the longest running and more successful in the UK. The International Faculty - CITY College Green Impact team was formed by the Student Services & Alumni Department and is composed by both students and staff. Special congratulations go to Μs Evanthia Kanonidou, Leader of the GO GREEN Club who led the project, as well as the rest of the students of the ‘Go Green’ club. A few words about Green Impact Green Impact has been developed and run for the past ten years by the National Union of Students and is now applied to a wide variety of organisations in the UK and abroad. It brings together students and staff to green campuses, curriculums and communities. Supply Chain Management students take ‘Olympia Electronics Challenge’
Our postgraduate students attending the MSc in Management (Logistics & Supply Chain Management) took the ‘Olympia Electronics Challenge’, a business challenge set by one of the biggest companies in electronic safety and security systems in Northern Greece. A group of students made a visit at the premises of Olympia Electronics able to see how logistics management is applied in a working setting. After that the students where given a brief, including detailed information about the company -and specific tasks and topics. Students were asked to provide their analysis, practical ideas to be implemented the company as well as foresee possible dangers and threats. Students prepared their pitch and presented their work to company representatives. The projects were presented to Mrs Sissy Fotopoulou, Supply Chain Manager at Olympia Electronics, while Dr Adrian Solomon, Lecturer at our Business Department and leader of the logistics unit, was present via Skype from Sheffield (UK). Our students had the opportunity to benefit from working on real-life projects for a big company like Olympia Electronics. This real-life experience is part of the fully industry-integrated teaching and assessment approach provided by this module of the MSc in Management (Logistics & Supply Chain Management) programme of the International Faculty. Company visits enhance the direct connection and collaboration with dynamic and extrovert companies like Olympia Electronics. Students and alumni who have previously passed through this experience are now working at big corporations such as Henkel, Mondelez, Coca-Cola,Kuehne-Nagel, LIDL, etc in the supply chain field. About Olympia Electronics Olympia Electronics was founded in 1979.The company is active in developing innovative electronic safety and security systems by using state of the art technology. The Human resource of Olympia Electronics is 174 employees, with 10% in R & D dept. The company is the dominant Greek enterprise in the electronics safety and security industry. Olympia Electronics' products are exported in 72 countries worldwide.

SEERC introduces Working Paper Series ‘SEE View’
The research centre of the International Faculty, CITY College, announce the introduction of a new SEERC Working Paper Series titled “SEE View” or “a view from the South East Europe”. The purposes of the SEE-VIEW Working Papers Series is to disseminate research and policy debate on subjects related to interdisciplinary issues in the Social Sciences and beyond, focusing on the region of South-East Europe. The working papers published in the Series constitute work in progress circulated to stimulate discussion and critical comments. Contributions of research work to the online series are welcome by scholars, researchers and policy makers working on issues related to South-East Europe and the Balkans in all Social Sciences and Humanities’ areas. All working papers receive an ISBN and are being published online by SEERC. Selected ones are also available in printed form. The 3 first working papers can be found here. An outstanding presentation by Dr Szamosi and Mr Liassides at the 9th MHRA HR Conference in Skopje
Dr Leslie Szamosi, Academic Director of the Executive MBA programme and Mr Chris Liassides, Academic Director of Postgraduate studies at the Business Administration & Economics Department of the International Faculty held a brilliant presentation at the 9th MHRA HR Conference that took place 31 May- 01 June in Skopje. The two guest speakers jointly presented the topic "Revisiting Positions: Getting HR on Top” and received particularly positive feedback by all participants who found the presentation engaging, outstanding and highly inspiring. The foundation of the presentation was based on the fact that HR in the region has come a very long way in the last fifteen years from an admin function to a more strategic one and that we needed to take this to the ‘next’ level. The premise of the presentation was to discuss how we in HR can get into the C-Suite (CEO level) given that only 5% of CEOs today come from HR. Attendees were presented with a toolkit approach to upgrade their excellence in people engagement skills to business acumen. The importance of internal marketing and personal branding rounded out how we get HR on Top!! The conference featured an international panel of speakers specialised in HR, while it was well-attended by more than 250 participants - mainly HR professionals from the country, but also other countries including from Kosovo, Bulgaria, the UK, Italy,France, Croatia and Slovenia. The aim of this year’s Conference ‘Best HR Solutions to Fight off Challenges in Emerging Industries’ was to keep up with the hot HR topics that affect both human resources managers and general managers of fast-growing businesses addressing the need to be always up to date with advanced techniques and solutions. The University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College was among the supporters of the conference. Ms. Hristina Lozanoska, President of MHRA stated that: "Liasidis and Szamosi's presentation HR ON THE TOP was the most inspiring and provocative presentation and raised real questions on what HR managers should know and do in order to have more successful careers and to become part of top management. MBA programmes are a basis for expanding the profile of HR managers, and Liassidis and Szamosi were specific with their recommendations to the audience to create business cases of their HR proposals, to learn the language of finance, marketing, strategies if they want to be heard from the top management, and to get support for HR investments. Dr Dimitriadis delivers seminar in Hemofarm pharmaceuticals in Belgrade
On 23 May 2017, Dr Nikolaos Dimitriadis, Director of Development of the Executive Development Institute (EDI) successfully delivered a seminar on ‘Brain-Friendly Communications’ at Hemofarm pharmaceuticals in Belgrade. The event was organised by Hemofarm Foundation, as part of their Mentorship programme. Dr Dimitriadis discussed the confusions, misunderstandings and unnecessary conflicts that arise in the way people communicate in their personal and professional lives and suggested new neurological and behavioural models that can be used to solve these communication problems. Dr Dimitriadis underpinned the importance of shifting the way business people communicate so that they can achieve better results in negotiations, leadership, marketing and sales. The event also included a live testing of advertisements, with the use of the latest Neuro-technology tools. This live demonstration gave particularly useful insights to participants. Hemofarm AD is one of biggest pharmaceuticals in the Serbia and it aims at supporting society through Hemofarm foundation. Providing trainings and educational opportunities for the industry is part of the International Faculty’s mission to offer education outside classrooms and to bring academia closer to the industry.

Basketball Tournament 2017 Finals at the International Faculty
Congratulations to ‘Getting Buckets’ the winning team of Basketball Tournament 2017 of the International Faculty CITY College! The final game took place, 21 May 2017 at the courts of YMCA Thessaloniki with more than 20 people participating and battling for the first place. Students and staff of the International Faculty joined the final game, cheering for the teams and enjoying the competition. The Tournament was organized by the Students’ Union (CSU) aiming at infusing sports activities into the academic year. Ms Sotiriadou participates in Google - Women Techmakers Summit 2017
Ms Anna Sotiriadou Ms Anna Sotiriadou, Head of the Computer Science Department at the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College joined, as invited speaker, the ‘Women Techmakers Greece | Telling Our Story’ event, together with other inspirational women from the fields of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship who shared their stories to inspire others to follow their dreams. The event took place 13-14 May at the City Hall of Thessaloniki. The event, which took place in over 50 countries, was co-organised in Thessaloniki by GDG Thessaloniki and the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

Authors’ Insights to the Art and Craft of Writing: An Open Seminar offered by the English Studies Department
With the Spring semester coming to an end, the English Studies Department was proud to host its final Personal and Professional Development seminar for the 2016-17 Academic year on Tuesday, 30th May, titled: Η Τέχνη της Γραφής: Εξομολογήσεις Τριών Συγγραφέων [Authors’ Insights to the Art and Craft of Writing] thus ending the event series in a creative and literary atmosphere. The published authors and guest speakers that were invited are: Mr. Vassilis Moschis, Ms. Eva Pavlidou and Mr. Petros Golitsis who accepted our invitation to share their writing as well as publishing experiences. The event took the form of a panel, and was coordinated by Ms. Cathy Marazi, Lecturer in the English Studies Department. In the first part of the event, each author presented his/her writing experience and craft. Beginning with Mr. Vassilis Moschis, audience members were exposed to areas of fiction writing, story development, character development and the various pleasures but also difficulties that it entails. Mr Moschis confirmed that reading as much as possible is necessary, hard work and dedication is essential but, more importantly, knowing why one is writing–for the art of writing, or for “show”–will make all the difference. Ms. Eva Pavlidou introduced the art of poetry writing and how human emotions and experiences can be captured through this literary type. In a heartfelt, honest and revealing insight, Ms Pavlidou explained how poetry writing can even turn into an “addiction” assisting one in the matter of expression, self-reflection and self-healing. She herself characterized poetry as “yet another vital organ that can keep one alive” thus touching upon the magic that is poetry and that is literature. In spite of her difficult journey, Ms Pavlidou poses as a source of inspiration for those who are afraid to pursue the art and craft of writing. Last but not least, Mr. Petros Golitsis, Lecturer in the Business and Administration Department, presented his extensive literary background and brought the matter of publishing–publication houses and journals–to the fore. Gracing us with some extracts from his published poems, he then proceeded to give an overview of his publication journey, how difficult and strenuous it may be, but also where it can take an author and how it can spread one’s voice and ideas to other countries and other cultures. In the second part of the event an interesting discussion followed, which made evident that one’s interests and passions need not be limited. Depending on one’s preferences, exposure and background, styles of writing may differ, genre choices vary and the actual writing process may ultimately be a long, lonely road or one filled with adventure and revelations. The Head of the English Studies Department, Dr. Paschalia Patsala, thanked both authors and audience members for their insights, their questions, as well as the fruitful exchange that followed. Though classes are almost over and the exam period is looming, this event was a great opportunity to consider sources of inspiration and creativity once study obligations have come to end. What is more, the event opened prospective doors of inquiry for those either interested in reading and even engaging in the art and craft of writing.

‘Psychology for All’ successfully completed for academic year 2016-2017
The ‘Psychology for all’ talk by Mr Evangelos Sepetis, Psychologist, Psychodynamic Therapist and Director of Postgraduate Programmes in Counselling Psychology at the International Faculty, CITY College, on ‘Psychological guidance for parents and educators for the management of student issues arising during class’ that took place 19 May 2017 marked the competition of the ‘Psychology for all’ open seminar series for academic year 2016-2017. This year the series was particularly successful with full house events by remarkable speakers presenting interesting topics each time. The Psychology Department of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College has been running successfully since 2009 the ‘Psychology for All’ open seminar series at our main campus in Thessaloniki. The series hosts 1-hour talks by different guest speakers specialising in different psychology areas who share their knowledge and expertise. The ‘Psychology for All’ series takes place within the Department’s and the International Faculty’s public engagement activities aiming at giving back to the community and giving access to knowledge.

Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis' paper on 'Regional Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management: Actors, Helices and Consensus Space' was recently listed on the top download list of SSRN. Prof. Ketikidis, Vice-Principal of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, frequently published his research work in well-established academic publications, journals etc. His research interests include topics such as Logistics Information Systems, Innovation and Regional Development, Health Informatics. ICT Policy and Research Strategy. SSRN is devoted to the rapid worldwide dissemination of research and is composed of a number of specialized research networks.
