A full-house Open Seminar on ‘Neuro-coaching techniques’ in Tirana
A successful open seminar was organised by the International Faculty, CITY College on ‘Neuro-coaching techniques’ with Mr. Nikos Lambridis’ presenting to a full house in Tirana! The event took place at the Tirana International Hotel, on 25 May 2017. Mr Nikos Lambridis, Head MBA student Coach for Career and Professional Development of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, delivered a presentation themed "Create Mindful Leaders with the Brain in Mind Bring NeuroCoaching to Your Performance" before more that 250 participants. Mr Lambridis provided an intensive learning experience, touching upon topics such as mindfulness, self and social awareness, developing others, performance management, unconscious bias, influencing others, collaboration and leadership. The event was well-attended by business professionals from various industries who had the opportunity to gain great inspiration and insights.

Guest Lecture by U.S. Consul General in Thessaloniki
On 12 May 2017 the International Faculty CITY College had the honour to host a guest lecture by US Consul General in Thessaloniki, Ms Rebecca A. Fong. Students of the Business Administration & Economics Department had the opportunity to attend a valuable guest lecture by Ms. Fong, entitled ‘My diplomatic experience’. In her inspiring presentation, Ms Fong shared her invaluable knowledge and experience with the students from her long career as diplomat, providing first-hand insights. Prior to her assignment to Thessaloniki, as a career Foreign Service Officer, Ms. Fong has served at the U.S. Consulate in Herat, Afghanistan; the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria; the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan; the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq; the U.S. Embassy in Manama, Bahrain and as the Advisor on Financial and Investment Affairs at the U.S. Mission to OECD in Paris, France. During her public service career she also served in Algeria, Russia, Croatia and Italy. Prior to joining the State Department Ms. Fong was the Vice President of International Operations for The Gap. Our business students showed particular interest in this guest lecture as they were given the chance to meet Ms Fong who wholeheartedly spoke to them about her journey in diplomacy.

Launch of the Programme for Management Development for EBA members
The 20th of May 2017 marked the launch to the Programme for Management Development that the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College will run for the European Business Association (EBA) members jointly with ΕΒΑ. The first module of the programme on ‘Contemporary Marketing Principals‘ was led by Dr Nikolaos Dimitriadis, Director of Development at EDI, and attended by 25 business professionals who gathered to accelerate their career in global management and leadership. Dr Dimitriadis addressed the big marketing questions of our times – like: How can marketing provide real, predictable value for companies? And what is the right skill-set and mindset for marketers to help their brands achieve greatness? – and provided evidence for the direction that marketing should take for the next years. The programme will be completed with 6 modules. Except for Dr Nikolaos Dimitriadis, academic staff from the University of Sheffield International Faculty teaching in the programme include Dr Leslie Szamosi, Academic Director of our Executive MBA, Mr Nikos Lambridis, Head MBA student Coach for Career and Professional Development and Dr Alexandros Psychogios, Lecturer at our Executive MBA programs and Professor of International HRM at Birmingham City Business School. The goal of the Programme for Management Development is to equip professional with skills and knowledge, which are required for meeting company’s strategic objectives; understanding business as an integrated system in the interrelationship of organizational, financial, marketing decisions aimed at increasing business competitiveness. The University of Sheffield International Faculty is ‘educational partner’ of EBA, one of Kyiv’s key business associations.

Lecture on Brain Leadership at the Institute of International Relations in Kyiv by Dr Dimitriadis
Students of the Institute of International Relations in Kyiv had the opportunity to attend an inspiring lecture by Dr Nikolaos Dimitriadis on "Brain Leadership: How to Engage Employees through Neuroscience". The lecture took place 19 May 2017 and was addressed to students studying international economics and international business. In his presentation Dr Dimitriadis discussed myths concerning the brain, leadership and management, underpinning that neuroscience techniques can be applied to leadership development and explained how business professionals can make their brain leadership smarter. “Today’s managers need to make their brain ‘leadership-smarter’ if they wish to success in the leadership ladder”, said Dr. Dimitriadis. The Institute of International Relations today is a branched modern educational and research centre based in Kyiv with high profile graduates like the President of Ukraine, Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Minister for Economic Affairs of Ukraine; Minister of Foreign Economic Ties and Trade of Ukraine, Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Deputy Ministers, Ambassadors of Ukraine to foreign states, Consuls-General, officers of Ukraine’s missions at the UN, UNESCO and other international organizations.

Seminar on Marketing Innovation by Dr Dimitriadis in Kyiv
Dr Nikolaos Dimitriadis, Director of Development of the Executive Development Institute (EDI) of the International Faculty, CITY College, run a seminar for the members of the European Business Association (EBA) in Kyiv with the title "Develop your Marketing Innovation Mindset”. In his seminar Dr Dimitriadis emphasized the importance of innovation in the marketing industry, which is vital for companies’ and brands’ success. Neuroscience and case studies, Dr Dimitriadis demonstrated the way by which marketers need to change their mindsets and embrace innovation in all levels. “The challenge is that marketing professionals have not been traditionally trained for being creative thinkers and innovative problem-solvers. Corporate cultures have also been traditionally developed to provide normality and predictability and not disruption” commented Dr Dimitriadis. Participants found Dr Dimitriadis’ practical approaches particularly useful and inspiring and benefited greatly from the seminar.

Workshop on Brain-Friendly Marketing by Dr Dimitriadis in Kyiv
On 18 May 2017 Dr Nikolaos Dimitriadis, Director of Development of the Executive Development Institute (EDI) of the International Faculty, CITY College delivered an insightful Workshop on brain-friendly marketing together with Neuropsychologist, Mr Matteo Venerucci, to the members of the European Business Association (EBA). Entitled ‘Apply Brain-Friendly Marketing and Win Your Customers' Brains!’ the workshop aimed at explaining the brain approach to marketing and sales, exploring how branding really works within the brain, presenting a comprehensive model for applying brain-based marketing and making participant’s barins ‘marketing-smarter’. The lively presentation included a live demonstration of Electroencephalography, Emotional Facial Recognition and other Neuromarketing Technologies. Dr Dimitriadis underpinned the importance of focusing the right message to the right part of the brain to achieve great marketing results. EBA members found the workshop particularly insightful and helpful. The Internationalc Faculty, CITY College is an educational partner of EBA.

Prof. Ketikidis to participate as panelist in EU Parliament event co-hosted by AREC of the University of Sheffield
Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis, Vice Principal of CITY College, International Faculty of the University of Sheffield, will participate as panelist in the event 'Pathway to Global Policy, Industry and Societal Impact on Resource Efficiency' hosted by the Advanced Resource Efficiency Centre (AREC) of the University of Sheffield and White Rose Brussels (WRB). The event will take place on 27 June 2017 at the European Parliament in Brussels. The keynote speech will be delivered by Prof Lenny Koh from the University of Sheffield who will present AREC - the global resource efficiency challenges and how AREC helps to address them. This event aims to showcase the research excellence and impact performed by AREC towards achieving environmental sustainability, resource production and consumption efficiency, and maximising its outreach globally. A successful Leadership Seminar in Bucharest by Ms Antoinette Oglethorpe
A 3-day seminar entitled ‘LEADER: The Six-Step System for Developing Remarkable Leaders Who Deliver Amazing Results’ was successfully organized in Bucharest, 12-14 May 2017 at the Hilton Hotel. Led by Ms Antoinette Oglethorpe, Leadership Development Consultant, Speaker and Author the event took place in the frame of the Sheffield Executive MBA offered in Bucharest. Using a practical and interactive approach, Antoinette Ogleothorpe presented a useful and thorough 6-step plan designed to guide future leaders to keep up with and drive the growth of their business and ensure long term success. The seminar included different activities, both individual and group activities, which prompted participants to identify and solve leadership issues. Participants gained a new perspective on the actions they should take and a kit full of practical tools and techniques to solve matters like: identifying critical skills that leaders should have; recruiting, keeping and developing the right people; ensuring that employees in key positions have the right leadership skills; creating a culture of growth that everyone buys into; developing agile career paths for each employee; preserving the positives of the company culture and much more.

16th Students Spring Symposium
A great event for students by students *Watch video at the bottom of the page On 18 May 2017 CITY College, the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield successfully held for the 16th Students Spring Symposium at its main campus in Thessaloniki aiming at enhancing student research and showcasing remarkable research projects. Entitled ‘Create to Share, Share to Inspire’ the Symposium was part of the ‘2nd Young Researchers Skills Development Week’, an event that celebrated academic research and featured a series of research-related workshops and activities. As always, the Symposium was organised for students by students being one of the major events and traditions of the International Faculty. With more than 160 registrations, 14 high quality student presentations, a workshop on “hate speech” and a plenary talk by the Mayor of Naousa, Mr Nikos Koutsogiannis, the Students Spring Symposium this year was characterised by its high quality, quality that can now easily match that of a professional conference. Furthermore, the Symposium this year innovated with a new addition, the open competition. In the competition two teams composed of students from different disciplines presented a problem related to the migration crisis, and suggested a solution. The completion was judged by two invited guests from NGOs. The two judges were extremely impressed by the work of the teams, the quality and depth of the presentations, and especially the suggested solutions.
