CITY College Career Day 2017
On the 17th May 2017, Career Day 2017 of the International Faculty, CITY College, took place with great success with more than 100 bachelors and masters students and many alumni participating. Themed ‘Find your Career Path’, the event was organised by the Career, Employability and Enterprise Centre of the International Faculty, bringing together students and alumni company representatives and recruiters – at a local, national and international level - from a variety of industry sectors. More than 40 companies participated this year at the event, interviewed students and graduates for full time and internship positions, collected CVs for future openings, while at the same time helped them gain insight into the variety of career paths. During the event more than 250 interviews were conducted in total. Company representatives were left with best impressions and gave particularly positive feedback on our students’ professionalism, quality and level of their knowledge and readiness for the competitive job market. Some of the companies that participated in this year’s Career Day were: Alfa Beta Vassilopoulos Apogee Information Systems Euromedica-Arogi Thessaloniki IKEA KPMG CERTIFIED AUDITORS Makedonia Palace Hotel Randstad Hellas SANI & IKOS RESORTS The Annual Career Day has become a tradition at the International Faculty aiming at enhancing students’ employability skills and connection to the job market and also at bringing the industry closer to academia for a fruitful and mutually beneficial relationship and exchange. The Career Day comes in line with our Faculty’s strategic goals and mission for extroversion and connection with the industry. We are proud to say that the Career Day is the jump-start for many of our graduates who now enjoy a successful career in Greece, Europe and all over the world. Keynote speech by Prof. Ketikidis at International Conference in Bucharest by SNSPA
Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis, Vice Principal of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, delivered an inspiring keynote speech at an international Entrepreneurship Conference organized by our partner institution, the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA), in Bucharest. The event took place 18-20 May 2017 at the SNSPA campus. The event, entitled ‘Entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship. Challenges and Opportunities in the 21st Century’ brought together academics, researchers and entrepreneurs to discuss the perspectives of responsible development of small and medium-sized enterprises in a dynamic environment, a turbulent one in the same time. Prof. Ketikidis delivered a remarkable presentation on ‘Triple Helix Interactions as a tool for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’. The conference presented new forms of entrepreneurship that emerged in the past decade, such as corporate or social entrepreneurship, which challenge traditional ways of doing business.

Prof. Ketikidis at the judges’ panel of the Pan-Hellenic Student Competition in Virtual Enterprise 2017
Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis participated in the judges’ panel of Finals of the Pan-Hellenic Student Competition in Virtual Enterprise 2017 that took place 28 April in Athens, Greece. Ten groups of students from ten schools from all over Greece participated in the competition presenting a Virtual Enterprise. The winning team was the team of Aristotle College, Thessaloniki which is going to represent Greece in the European student competition for Virtual Enterprises. The event aimed at promoting and inspiring the entrepreneurial spirit of among high school students. Prof. Ketikidis had the opportunity to see impressive presentations and concepts presented in the competition by young students.

Prof. Kefalas receives Senate Award by the University of Sheffield
Professor Petros Kefalas Warm congratulations are in order for Professor Petros Kefalas on receiving the 2016/17 Senate Award for Leadership in Learning and Teaching by the University of Sheffield. This award comes in recognition of Prof. Kefalas’ exceptional work and commitment and values through his 25 years of service at the International Faculty, as well as, his unparalleled ability to lead and inspire all staff towards achieving excellence in learning and teaching. It is worth mentioning that the University of Sheffield awards only one Senate Award for Leadership in Learning and Teaching each year. The Senate Awards Scheme particularly rewards staff members of the University of Sheffield who demonstrate an exceptional contribution in the area of learning and teaching and thus support and enhance the student learning experience. Business graduate gets traineeship at the European Central Bank (ECB)
Ms Sanja Arsova A great opportunity for our graduate Sanja Arsova, who was offered a traineeship at the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt in the Directorate General Finance, within the Financial Reporting Division. Sanja completed the BA (Hons) in Business Studies (Accounting and Finance) from the Business Administration and Economics Department of the International Faculty, CITY College. Ms Sanja Arsova “I was genuinely surprised and excited when I received the mail of acceptance from the ECB. Being part of the ECB, one of the most influential financial institution globally, means a lot to me. On one hand it is a recognition of my knowledge and skills gained through my studies at the International Faculty, CITY College and my internship at SEERC. On the other hand it is true motivation and great opportunity to apply those skills and upgrade my knowledge into more advanced and professional level. I am genuinely grateful for the support and knowledge I got from CITY College, The International Faculty of The University of Sheffield and the academic staff”, said Sanja. As a trainee, Sanja, will be involved in a variety of tasks such as daily accounting for financial assets denominated in euro and foreign currencies, contributing to the production of ECB and Eurosystem financial reports, providing analytical and quantitative support to the Division and addressing ad hoc data requests by using financial information systems and related tools, providing financial analysis and contributing to policy issues relating to accounting and financial reporting and reconciling accounting data to the treasury management system. Opening Speech by Dr Nikolaidis at the Pan European event 'Free Market Road Show 2017'
Dr Dimitrios Nikolaidis was honoured to open with an inspiring keynote speech the Thessaloniki event of the Free Market Road Show 2017, a Pan European event that takes place in 45 European cities. In Thessaloniki the event,themed 'The World after Brexit and Trump' took place 9 May 2017 at the Ceremony Hall of Aristotle University with Dr Nikolaidis welcoming all guests and set the stage for the presentations that followed. In his opening speech Dr Nikolaidis, highlighted the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in turbulent times, noting that it is time for action and that significant changes are required, if the society wants to build a promising future. The event was well attended by representatives of the industry, academics and university students. About the 10th Annual Free Market Road Show The Austrian Economics Center (AEC), in cooperation with over 100 leading think-tanks and universities across Europe and the Caucasus, and in association with international partners such as the Global Philanthropic Trust, Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, Americans for Tax Reform, Competitive Enterprise Institute, World Taxpayers Associations, European Students for Liberty, and the F.A. v. Hayek Institut, organise the 10th Annual Free Market Road Show, which tours from March 16th to May 22nd through 45 capitals in Europe and Caucasus – from Scandinavia to Montenegro, from Spain to the Ukraine.

1st of May excursion to Chalkidiki by CSU
Students of the International Faculty CITY College in Thessaloniki welcomed May with an exciting excursion to the sandy beaches of Chalkidiki! The excursion was organised by our Students Union (CSU). The group of students enjoyed the lovely weather at the beautiful beaches and beach bars of Paliouri and Pefkochori. Some students had the first swim for this summer while others didn't miss the opportunity to play beach volley. The Students' Union continues with its commitment to organise more trips throughout this academic year enriching the student experience with memorable moments.

A successful MBA Open Class on Leadership by Dr Dimitriadis in Bucharest
Dr Nikolaos Dimitriadis, Development Director of the Executive Development Institute (EDI) of the International Faculty, CITY College, successfully delivered an MBA Open Class on Leadership in Bucharest on 3 May 2017 at the Hilton Hotel. Entitled 'Leadership and the Brain: How to lead, motivate and inspire your employees's brains' the event drew a full house attracting businessmen, professionals and entrepreneurs from different industries. In his lively presentation Dr Dimitriadis discussed managers’ traditional approach to employees with regards to rewards, bonuses, job promotions and ‘punishment’ designed to achieve multilevel goals. Dr Dimitriadis and suggested that these approaches should be revised. “There is strong scientific evidence that this approach is, not just irrelevant, but dangerous because it does not accept humans as they are: emotional, irrational and primarily focused on their survival” said Dr Dimitriadis and continued his presentation suggesting ways in which leader may inspire their employees. Participants were impressed by Dr Dimitriadis’ presentation which they found particularly useful.
