Our research centre, SEERC, at the UIIN Conference in Amsterdam
During 1-3 June 2016 SEERC Chairman and Vice Principal of International Faculty, CITY College, Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis, and PhD Candidate, Mr Besart Hajrizi, participated at the prestigious University Industry Interaction Network Conference (UIIN) which brings more than 400 participants annually towards sharing cutting-edge practices of university-industry cooperation. Prof. Ketikidis and Mr Hajrizi presented a paper entitled “Focusing on the Triple Helix: a strategy for ensuring continuity and growth in crisis struck countries” in order to disseminate SEERC’s practices in this sector of interest. The three-day Conference brought together the sharing of knowledge and insights, the learning of new concepts and worked towards a deeper understanding of how to generate optimal value from university-industry interaction. Migration on the Balkans: Common security challenges and ways to cope with the prolonged crisis
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, in cooperation with the Faculty of Security of St. Clement of Ohrid University, will host a regional student conference on the topic: “Migration in the Balkans: Common Security Challenges and Ways to Cope with the Prolonged Crisis” in Skopje and Gevgelija, FYROM between 5-7 June 2016. The International Faculty, CITY College, signs Scholarships Agreement with the Ministry of Education of Kosovo
On the 27th of May 2016 in Thessaloniki, Mr. Ioannis Ververidis, Principal of CITY College the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield and Prof. Dr. Arsim Bajrami, Minister of Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Kosovo signed a protocol of cooperation which includes a scholarships agreement for students from Kosovo. Signature of the agreement between Prof. Dr Arsim Bajrami and Mr Yannis Ververidis The scholarships agreement includes sixty two (62) scholarships for students from Kosovo for Bachelor’s, Master’s, MBA studies and Doctorate (PhD) research degrees for the admission year 2016-17. Announcement of the Entry Scholarships 2016-17 offered to students from Kosovo. Signature of the agreement between Prof. Dr Arsim Bajrami and Mr Yannis Ververidis Under this common initiative the two parties involved have agreed to provide an exceptional educational opportunity to students from Kosovo, who wish to study abroad and pursue a globally recognised degree, the degree of the University of Sheffield. He also met the new President of CITY’s Students’ Union, Diamant Hasani. Prof. Dr. Arsim Bajrami, Minister of Education, Science and Technology of Kosovo with Mr Yannis Ververidis, Principal of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College and the President of the International Faculty's Student Union (CSU), Diamant Hasani. Prior to signing the agreement, Mr. Ververidis and Prof. Dr. Arsim Bajrami discussed thoroughly the opportunities arising from this cooperation for the promotion of quality higher education and academic research through common initiatives. The International Faculty, CITY College, and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Kosovo have been offering scholarships to students from Kosovo since 2009 aiming at actively promoting the proliferation of quality education by funding the studies of prospective students from Kosovo through scholarships.

For: Undergraduate (Bachelors) Postgraduate (Masters, full-time) Executive MBA (part-time / full-time for the public and private sector) Research Degrees (full-time/part-time PhD) The University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Kosovo are offering sixty two (62) scholarships to students from Kosovo for Bachelors, Masters (full time), MBA (part-time / full-time for the public and private sector) and Research Degrees (full-time/part-time PhD) studies (Admission year: 2016-2017). Dr Prodromidou on Radio France Internationale
Dr Alexandra Prodromidou, Lecturer at the Business Administration and Economics Department, commented for Radio France Internationale on the importance of Mr Vladimir Putin’s visit to Greece on May 27-28, 2016. Dr Prodromidou was quoted by RFI’s journalist, Ms Charlotte Stiévenard, on the geopolitical and economic parameters of the visit with an emphasis on energy issues. Content and audio available here.

Football Tournament Finals at the International Faculty CITY College
The Football Tournament 2016 of the International Faculty, CITY College came to an end with the exciting finals that tool place 31 May 2016 at the at the YMCA football court. Three teams competed against each other; the team that won two matches took the first place while the team that won one game took the second place. The winning team, Cheeky Bastards, won against Eagles 4-1 and 1-0 against Momchencata. Eagles won the second place, since they were defeated by Cheeky Bastards, but won 6-1 against Momchencata. Marko Jovanovski, the new Sports and Recreational Activities Officer for 2016/17 was the acting referee. Overall, 5 teams of a total of 32 students and staff participated in the Students' Union football tournament, during May 24th and 31st. Congratulations to all participants!

Psychology for all talk on 'The architecture of change' by Dr Rodafinos
On 11th May, Dr Angelos Rodafinos, Education Consultant at Monash University, Australia and Former Head of the Psychology Department of CITY College, revisited the ‘Psychology for all’ open lecture series to deliver a very interesting talk on ‘Change Architecture’ at our main campus in Thessaloniki. In his motivational presentation Dr Rodafinos discussed ways in which people can changes their lives, if they wish to, or change the lives of people around them, face problems and live a happy and fulfilling life. The event was well-attended and concluded with a discussion between the audience and the speaker. This was the last event of the ‘Psychology for All’ series which is going to resume in the next academic year with interesting topics and speakers. Watch Dr Rodafinos's seminar

The International Faculty, CITY College celebrates Charter Day 2016
Thessaloniki – Skopje – Belgrade - Prishtina During the month of May 2016, alumni of the International Faculty, CITY College joined fellow Sheffield alumni and friends around the world and came together in the University’s first ever worldwide Charter Day celebrations. A series of Charter Day events were organised by the Alumni Department of CITY College in Thessaloniki, Skopje, Belgrade and Prishtina, marking 111 years since the University was founded by Royal Charter in 1905. Alumni and friends gathered to celebrate the day reunite but also to support local charities. Thessaloniki’s event took place at the local bar “Ifilios” on 19th May. Many younger generation alumni from different disciplines gathered in order to celebrate and see each other again. Proceedings were given to the “Down Syndrome Association of Thessaloniki”. The 19th of May saw the celebrations of Charter Day also in Skopje and Prishtina. Alumni donations gathered will be given to the 13-year old Elena Smileska who is currently battles a major health issue and to Down Syndrome Association of Kosovo respectively. In Belgrade, Charter Day was celebrated in 25th of May at “Top night club”. Money gathered will be offered to the Center for Protection of Infants, Children and Youth – Zvecanska; Over 50 Charter Day events have been organized around the world. Family BBQs, formal dinners and academic debates, are some of the events organized all the way from Europe to China and Australia. As integral part of the University of Sheffield, the International Faculty, CITY College made its own mark in the frame of Charter Day celebrations and joined Sheffield alumni around the world with four special events across the region of South East Europe.

Ms Margarita Kosior on the stage of the 14th ELTA Serbia Conference
On 20-21 May 2016, Ms Margarita Kosior, an English Studies Department Lecturer, attended the 14th ELTA Serbia Conference, which took place in Belgrade, with the central theme "One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world (Malala Yousafzai, 2013)". During the event, Ms. Kosior delivered a talk entitled "Teaching for Social Justice: From Social Context to Teaching Content" representing the local teachers' association, TESOL Macedonia-Thrace, Northern Greece. During her session she presented, among others, ideas implemented at and promoted by the English Studies Department. Ms Kosior argued that the English teaching profession has acquired new aims ranging beyond the merely linguistic development of the students. With the guidance of inspiring educators, English language learners become well-informed and responsible global citizens. Moreover, Ms Kosior recommended a number of ways in which this can be accomplished: the use of TED talks, YouTube videos and documentaries, engaging students in silent discussion, or working on projects involving various kinds of oral presentations, to mention just a few. In the spirit of the conference, Ms Kosior convinced the audience that raising awareness of global issues and fostering social responsibility should be among the aims of every educator. The audience consisted of educators from Serbia, but also representatives of various teachers' associations and nationalities, which opens doors to potential collaboration in the future.

Our students participate in football and beach soccer matches
As we are heading toward to end of the academic year and just a few weeks before the exams, our Bachelors and Masters students took the opportunity to participate in a football and a beach soccer match during the month of May and have some fun. On Tuesday, 24 of May the ongoing Football Tournament between students held its semi-final games between four teams. The winning teams competed against each other at Finals of the Football Tournament that took place at the court of YMCA on Tuesday, 31st of May. Also, a friendly beach soccer match took place between students of CITY College and ACT. Our team won with the final score 2-1 in a 4v4 team match that took place at Anatolia College in Thessaloniki. Warm congratulations to our students!

Introducing our new Students’ Union Board (CSU) 2016-17
Like every year, the 2016 electoral period at the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield, CITY College, concluded with the election of four (4) Student Union Officers, elected by the entire student body at the Faculty’s main campus in Thessaloniki. Diamant Hasani, is the new CSU President. Diamant together with the three other members of the board, namely, Joanna Daulle, Public Relations and Communications Officer, Vasilis Kikalos, Welfare & Education Officer, Marko Jovanovski, Sports and Recreational Activities Officer, represent the student body voice for the academic year 2016-17. All students are encouraged to become active and join our CSU in its activities and initiatives. The International Faculty congratulates all elected officers and wishes them best success for a fruitful academic year ahead! "Services Optimisation for ‘Customer’ Satisfaction" within the ‘ELT Methodology for All’ Open Seminars of Our English Studies Department
The most recent event in the series of the "ELT Methodology for All" seminars organized by the English Studies Department was of an interdisciplinary nature. The guest speaker, Dr Dimitris V. Nikolaidis, is the Head of Business Administration & Economics Department, and the audience composed mostly of ESD students and staff, but also students of the Business Department and external guests. Dr Nikolaidis delivered a talk entitled "Services Optimisation for Customer Satisfaction." Although the majority of the audience is involved in foreign language teaching and the choice of a business-oriented topic may have surprised some, Dr Nikolaidis managed to convince everybody present of the importance of service quality not only in the corporate world, but also in academia and educational environments. Dr Nikolaidis talked about reasons for which ‘customers/clients’ leave and referred to the ways to make them stay, which can be translated into the context of foreign language teaching, and therefore the audience could identify themselves in the scenarios presented by the speaker. Just the way customer satisfaction is a major concern of every entrepreneur, student satisfaction is the concern of every teacher and educator. Some of the core messages the audience carried away with them were: make a difference by providing augmented products; do not make promises you cannot keep; constantly upgrade and improve your product or services; ask your customers and clients what they need and develop a genuine relationship with them; and be passionate about what you do!
