New collaboration with the European Business Association in Kyiv
The International Faculty announces new collaboration in Kyiv with the European Business Association (EBA). The two parties joined forces aiming at promoting vocational training and quality education in the country. In the frame of this collaboration a series of educational events will be organised at the EBA in Kyiv and EBA chapters in Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa while at the same time articles by our faculty will be published by the EBA. The International Faculty will be acting as ‘educational partner’ of the EBA in these common activities. The EBA will also entrust the International Faculty with the professional training of some of its executives with the Executive MBA programme that has been running successfully in Kyiv since 2010. The International Faculty is particularly happy about this new collaboration that is aligned with our intention to bring the academia closer to business. About EBA Established in 1999, the EBA provides a forum in which members can discuss and find solutions to common problems affecting business in Ukraine. This initiative was initially supported by the European Commission and has grown to become one of the largest and most influential business communities in the country. With more than nine hundred members, the European Business Association (EBA) is the largest premier union of businesses operating in the Ukrainian market.

University of Sheffield among the world's in top 100 most international universities
The University of Sheffield has been named as one of the 100 'most international' universities by The Times Higher Education. The list features the University of Sheffield in 99th place out of a possible 800 universities that have demonstrated an international outlook, attracting students and scholars from all over the world. Strategic collaboration between the International Faculty and Domotel
CITY College, International Faculty of the University of Sheffield happily announces the beginning of cooperation with Domotel Hotels & Resorts, one of Greece’s largest luxury hotel chains. Through this collaboration the two parties aim at developing a framework of educational activities, offering students access to the labour market of the tourism sector and bringing the academia closer to industry. In the frame of this newly established collaboration, building on the academic knowledge offered by the International Faculty in the field of tourism and the expertise and experience of Domotel, students and graduates of our postgraduate programme MSc in Management (Tourism and Leisure Management) will be offered internships and employment opportunities in the hotels of the chain. In addition, executives from Domotel will contribute to the programme’s lectures while at the same time they will act as mentors to the programme’s students and graduates and guide those who will choose Domotel case studies as their dissertation topic. "We are delighted to launch this partnership. Linking knowledge to entrepreneurship is essential for the education and preparation of our students for their introduction in the labour market, especially in the fast-paced sector of tourism and hospitality. We believe that our students have a lot to learn from a sector leader like Domotel”, says Dr. Dimitris Nikolaidis, Head of our Business Administration and Economics Department. “Domotel Hotels & Resorts gladly welcomes the cooperation with CITY College, International Faculty of the University of Sheffield, and trusts it is going to significantly contribute to the reconstruction of the Greek tourism. Congratulations Dr Gonidis!
Congratulations to Fotis Gonidis, Research Associate and PhD candidate at SEERC, on successfully defending his PhD thesis entitled “A Framework Enabling the Cross Platform Development of Service-based Cloud Applications”. Mr Gonidis’ thesis was co-supervised by Dr Iraklis Paraskakis and Dr Antoni Simons who offered him great support and guidance throughout his research journey. The members of his evaluation committee were Prof. Keith Jeffery and Prof. Petros Kefalas. Mr Gonidis commented on his success: “Carrying out a PhD may become a lifelong experience, which to a certain extend shapes the way you think, react and face the challenges in your life. Above all though, it is a journey through uncharted routes full of surprises, mystery and unexpected encounters. There are days, when you are excited and full of motivation, followed by days of disappointment and frustration. Nevertheless, when you reach the end of your journey, there is only one feeling left, that is fulfilment. You feel that you have fulfilled the promise to yourself, which is to accomplish the assignment you undertook when you started this journey. And it is this feeling, which gives value to all the good and bad moments you have been through. I owe my deepest gratitude to my supervisors, Dr Iraklis Paraskakis and Dr Anthony J. H. Simons for their unconditional mentorship and support and also for providing me the opportunity to participate in the RELATE European Project with the prestigious position of the Marie Curie Fellow. Additionally, I would like to wholeheartedly thank the whole SEERC family for accompanying and supporting me in my journey. Being awarded with a PhD is only the beginning. My future plans include further promoting and advancing the field of my research, namely Cloud Computing, either by pursuing a career in Academia or in Industry.” Fotis Gonidis holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Professional Doctorate in Engineering in Information and Communication Technology from Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands. He has obtained experience working in the Electronics (Philips, NXP Semiconductors) and Automotive Industry (DAF Trucks) in the Netherlands. He has been a Marie Curie Fellow participating in the Marie Curie Initial Training Network ‘RELATE. His research interests are in the area of Cloud Computing, Service-Oriented Computing and Software Engineering. The International Faculty community warmly congratulates Fotis and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.

The Executive MBA ‘Career Coaching Programme’
Mr Nikos Lambridis, Senior Leadership Coach “People do better when they’re part of something larger than themselves” Taking career coaching in our Executive MBA programme a step further, CITY College offers the ‘Career Coaching Programme’. The programme runs within the Executive MBA aiming at addressing our executive students’ career challenges and expectations. The Career Coaching programme has been carefully designed and its main goal is to inspire and support students to maximise their professional potential by coaching effectively their workforce. MBA participants enter the programme by taking Gallup's StrengthsFinder assessment test, an international test that has helped millions of leaders discover their strengths and become more productive. As business coaching has become fundamental, the programme aspires to train our students help their team members experience progress at work in a meaningful way. Through this coaching programme, our students will be taught how to motivate people, build relationships manage conflict delegate tasks properly and become effective team leaders. The Career Coaching Programme is led by Mr. Nikos Lambridis, Senior Leadership Coach with significant experience in career coaching and professional development, and also a BAED Adjunct Lecturer in Organisational Behaviour and Leadership module of our MBA programme. Mr. Lambridis has worked in the past with big companies like Coca Cola, Vodafone, Pepsico Cosmote, Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline and many others. Prof. Ketikidis at the honorary event of the Panhellenic Informatics Competition
Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis, Vice Principal of the International Faculty, CITY College was among keynote speakers at the honorary event for the Panhellenic Informatics Competition hosted by EPY – Macedonia-Thrace. The event, that aimed at honouring the students that excelled and were awarded with a medal at the Panhellenic Informatics Competition, took place on the 8th of January 2016 at the Electra Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki. Except for Prof. Ketikidis the event featured a series of notable speakers, namely: Mr Kostas Kaggelidis, President of SEPVE, Mr Ioannis Manolopoulos, Professor at the Informatics Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Ms Lia Theodouli – Terzidou, Vice President of EPY – Macedonia-Thrace, Mr Ioannis Tsoukalidis, Software Engineer at Google, San Francisco and Mr Andreas Baresel-Bofinger, Lecturer at CITY College who also represented Business Angels Greece. The event was followed by a reception and the traditional Pitta Cutting of EPY.

Entrepreneurship unit at the Managers Academy in Skopje
On the weekend of 11-13 December 2015, Mr. Andreas Baresel – Bofinger, Lecturer at the Business Administration and Economics Department, delivered a unit on entrepreneurship at the Managers Academy in Skopje. Entitled ‘Entrepreneurship: Successfully Launching and Managing New Ventures’ the unit was delivered at the TCC Grand Plaza Hotel as part of the Strategic Management track of the postgraduate programme . The unit was attended by regular postgraduate students of Managers Academy from the Strategic Management track and by 13 scholars from the Ministry of Education and Science. The Managers’ Academy is established under the academic authority of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, in collaboration with the Macedonian Chambers of Commerce and supported by the Macedonian Ministry of Education and Science. The core mission of the Managers Academy is vocational training and qualifications attainment, including numerous complementary services that will benefit its members and advance their professional skills and status.

Christmas Event by the English Studies Department
The English Studies Department, listening to the students' voice in the Student Staff Committee, organized a Christmas Event on Thursday, December 10th, in the ESD premises at Koromila building. Students were actively engaged in the organization of the event, and contributed to its success with homemade sweets, ornaments, live music, and their biggest smiles! They all together decorated the ESD Christmas tree as well as the floor, adding a more 'personal' touch to the premises. On that day, students and staff had the opportunity to mingle, enjoying a festive atmosphere. This bonding experience reinforced everyone's sense of belonging to the ESD family.

‘Digital marketing’ MOOC course shortlisted for award
The Digital and Social Media Marketing MOOC online open course that was launched in September 2015, run successfully, as part of the international academic collaboration of 5 European universities (JEMSS project) – the International Faculty, CITY College among them and the University of Salford as lead partner – has been shortlisted by the Northern Digital Awards 2016. This nomination came as recognition of the successful student recruitment to the course in the category of “Digital Marketing Campaign – Third Sector”. The course attracted more than 3.000 student sign-ups. These students had the opportunity to participate in the MOOC or proceed to the next stage and get a certificate for completing the exam questions, which ran alongside the basic MOOC. The programme was addressed to organisations who want to establish and improve their digital and social media marketing presence and individuals interested in digital and social media marketing. It equipped participants with knowledge of the latest digital and social media marketing techniques, tools and channels. With real case studies from businesses across Europe, participants had the opportunity to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills, whilst navigating the complexities of local market places. The MOOC development is part of a European Founded project (JEMSS) that aims to develop a Joint Masters in Digital and Social Media Marketing. The MOOC and the JEMSS project complement the already strong portfolio of masters provided by the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College. These include among others the MA in Digital Marketing and Social Media delivered in Thessaloniki and Bulgaria. This project has been funded with support from the European Commission.
