New Students’ Union (CSU) elected
The International Faculty has new leadership for its Students’ Union (CSU) as a result of the electoral process that took place last week. The new CSU Board and appointed Officers are: President Ms. Theodora Theodoridou Welfare and Educational Officer Mr. Vassilis Kikalos Sports and Events Officer Mr. Fotis Karagiannis PR Officer Mr. Konstantinos Karagiannis Together with the Vice President who will be elected by postgraduate students and the class representatives, they will represent the voice of our students for the academic year 2015-2016. The current and the next CSU team The current CSU will hand over as of October 2015 to the new Board. Congratulations to the new CSU. The International Faculty wishes them best success!

Internal Football Tournament by CSU
In May 2015 our Students Union (CSU) organised with great success an Internal Football Tournament for the International Faculty, CITY College. Participating teams competed against each other at the Y.M.C.A.court in Thessaloniki. During both semi-finals and finals all players shared moments of excitement, fun, fair play and struggle for the victory. Many spectators from the International Faculty joined the tournament to cheer and support the teams. Congratulations to the winning team and everyone that participated in the tournament!

Seminar on Brain-Friendly Communications by Dr Dimitriadis in Prishtina
Brain-friendly communications was the central theme of the open seminar that Dr Nikolaos Dimitriadis successfully delivered in Prishtina, at the Innovation Centre of Kosovo, on 4 June 2015. In his presentation entitled ‘Brain-Friendly Communications: How to talk directly to brains and influence people’s behaviour’, Dr Dimitriadis discussed the confusions, misunderstandings and unnecessary conflicts that arise in the way people communicate in their personal and professional lives and suggested new neurological and behavioural models that can be used to solve these communication problems. Dr Dimitriadis explained that people fail to communicate effectively because they are used to sending the wrong messages to the wrong parts of the human brain, a process that caused confusion. This confusion often causes problems to today’s entrepreneurs and marketers. Dr Dimitriadis underpinned the importance of shifting the way business people communicate so that they can achieve more in negotiations, leadership, marketing and sales. More than 100 professionals, marketers, managers, psychologists and many of our alumni attended and were impressed by Dr Dimitriadis’ lively presentation. 31 August - 6 September 2015 Experience an unforgettable summer in Northern Greece, while learning with students from all around the world! Following last year’s successful summer school, the International Faculty, CITY College, once again hosts two Summer Schools this coming summer, at its main campus in Thessaloniki, Greece. The programmes will offer student participants the opportunity to learn a subject of their choice while experiencing the Greek history and culture both in Thessaloniki and afield around Northern Greece. The eight-day courses include daily lessons, tours, excursions to the famous Greek beaches, visits to cultural and natural sights and other activities which promise to participants an unforgettable experience. The summer courses are addressed to bachelors and masters students from all disciplines. Classes are delivered in English and upon completion of the programmes students will receive a Certificate of Attendance form the The University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College. Dr Vivas delivers speech about ADHD at WHAAM Conference
Dr Ana Vivas, Head of Psychology Department at the International Faculty, CITY College participated with an interesting presentation in ‘WHAAM-Web Health Application for ADHD Monitoring’ event, hosted by the Aristotle University Research Dissemination Centre, 3 June 2015. With her presentation, entitled ‘AHDH from a Cognitive Neuroscience perspective’ Dr Vivas shared her 20 year research expertise in the field of attention and discussed what Cognitive Neuroscience has to offer for a better understanding of the core problems in children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and how this knowledge can be used for more accurate and objective diagnosis, and to design tailored computer-based cognitive training interventions. The event took place in the frame of the Web Health Application for ADHD Monitoring Project and was well-attended by university students and lecturers, parents of children with ADHD and educators. WHAAM is an EU-funded project aimed at diffusing a new culture in the ADHD intervention with the use of technology and ICT.

BAED student receives SURE scholarship by the University of Sheffield
Mr Georgios Kladakis Dr Alexandra Prodromidou Mr Georgios Kladakis, undergraduate student at the Business Administration and Economics Department (BAED) and Dr Alexandra Prodromidou, a Lecturer in EU and International Politics at BAED and an Associate Fellow of the Sheffield Political Economy Research Institute (SPERI), received a Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) fund for 2015 to work on a research project on ‘Re-conceptualising democratic participation and citizenship in post-2010 Greece’. SURE offers funded research scholarships to The University of Sheffield's undergraduate students to work in partnership with an academic on a specific piece of research. The proposed research will focus on the trends in democratic participation and citizenship which have developed since the beginning of the crisis in Greece by looking at the shaping of the voting behavior of Greek voters during the general elections in May and June 2012, as well as, in January 2015. The results of this research are expected to add to our knowledge of the changing conceptualization of democratic participation and citizenship in Greece post-2010. Many students from the International Faculty have received SURE scholarships in the past and have carried out substantial academic research.

The International Faculty at the 1st International Conference of Agrifood SCM & Green Logistics
Mr Andreas Baresel-Bofinger The University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, participated with two contributions at the 1st International Conference of Agrifood Supply Chain Management and Green Logistics which took place within the framework of the GREEN-AgriChains Project at the Porto Carras Hotel in Halkidiki on May 27-30, 2015. Our graduate, Stefan Ivanov spoke about his research on “Assessing the Implementation of a Food Producer Union Business Model in Bulgaria: Pitfalls and Success Factors” (co-authored by Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis and Mr Adrian Solomon) while Andreas Baresel-Bofinger presented a paper based on the research done by our graduate Nikola Bendic, entitled “Improving the Cold Supply Chain for Fresh Agricultural Food Products Between Serbia and Western Europe”. The conference attracted an international audience with more than 200 registered participants. Appealing keynote speeches were given, among other topics, on “Green Logistics” and “Sustainable Food Supply Chain Design” as well as on the vision of perfect “Synchro-modality” in modern supply chain management.

‘Psychology for All’ wraps up with three inspiring presentations
‘Psychology for All’ open seminar series run by our Psychology Department concluded successfully for another academic year with three interesting events presented by inspirational lecturers in May 2015. Ms. Emilia Axiotidou, Psychoeducator and Family Counsellor, discussed the difficult yet wonderful years of adolescence in her presentation ‘Puberty: Tightrope Walking Elephants’. Ms. Axiotidou explained that puberty is the phase when children become adults and this transition comes with many physical and emotional changes hard to deal with. During her presentation she discussed with parents ways to deal with their teenagers at home and advised them to take into consideration and respect the individuality of each person, to try to guide them with care and love in order to avoid tension at home and prepare them to open their wings. Ms. Maria Matiaki, Director of our Department of Student and Alumni Affairs and Career Counsellor, delivered a speech on ‘The Role of Self-awareness in Professional Life’. Ms Matiaki argued that the only way to achieve fulfillment and self-realisation through professional career is to practice inner search and achieve a good level of self-awareness. In that way, talents, beliefs, values and skills can be revealed and show the way to professional success. “Career counselling aims at coaching people to develop self-awareness, thus make the best possible decisions and take the steps necessary for professional success,” said Ms. Matiaki. And finally, what best way to complete this year’s ‘Psychology for All’ series than with a presentation by the person that created the series in 2010? Dr Angelo Rodafinos, Authorised Officer – Plagiarism, Swinburne Online Education and Formed Head of our Psychology Department, returned to the ‘Psychology for All’ series to deliver a speech on ‘Problem solving with the Ro method’. Dr Rodafinos shared with the audience ways in which we can live a happier life and concluded by advising the audience to tackle their problems by either changing the problematic situation or –if that is not possible – change the way they approach the situation each time. Reflecting back over the year, it has certainly been another successful year for the ‘Psychology for All’ series. More interesting talks coming up in the academic year 2015-16. Stay tuned! Announcement of MBA Scholarships 2015-16 for FYR Macedonia students
Call for the "Boris Trajkovski" Scholarships 2015-16 for MBA students The Ministry of Education and Science and the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College are jointly offering full MBA scholarships for the Executive MBA programme running in Thessaloniki, Greece for the Academic Year 2015/16. The programme leads to the prestigious MBA degree of the University of Sheffield. The deadline for the application and submission of the required documents is 26 June 2015. Applications for Scholarships should be submitted to the Ministry.

Workshop on Innovation to Students of the 1st Experiential Learning Primary School in Thessaloniki by Dr Nikolaidis
Dr Dimitrios Nikolaidis, Head of the Business Administration and Economics Department delivered a very interesting and at the same time different Workshop on Innovation to a younger audience than usual. 10-year old primary school students of the 1st Experiential Primary School of Thessaloniki had the opportunity to learn how to express innovative thinking in the 2-hour workshop entitled ‘Imagine. Think. Create. Cultivating Innovation in School’ that took place 20 May 2015. The workshop aimed at cultivating and awakening children’s innovation and business thinking skills by empowering their communication and team works skills, their critical thinking and ability to make decisions as well as follow ethical business practice. Separated in teams of six, the students worked to solve real prblems, discussed and gave their own solutions and suggestions. All answers were well-defended and in some cases impressive. The students and their teachers enjoyed Dr Nikolaidis’ Workshop and reported that they learnt a lot and enjoyed it at the same time.

New Masters programmes in Advanced Software Engineering
The Computer Science Department of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, is happy to announce the launch of three (3) new postgraduate programmes in its portfolio, responding to the strong demand for specialisation in the field of Software Engineering. The new programmes offering specialization in telecommunications, security and web and mobile applications are the following MSc in Advanced Software Engineering (Telecommunications) MSc in Advanced Software Engineering (Security) MSc in Advanced Software Engineering (Web and Mobile Applications) Dr Dimitris Dranidis, Director of Postgraduate Studies at the Computer Science Department comments: “Software has not only become an integral part of our every day life but also an important asset for the industry and the globalized economy. Furthermore, software is increasingly relying on the Internet and the World Wide Web to satisfy business and customer needs. The need for the development of high quality and in time software is very high; and so is the need for skilled, properly trained, and specialised software engineers. We aim to provide to our students with the knowledge, skills, and specialisation in contemporary technologies that are required to fulfill these demands. According to labor agencies worldwide, the occupation of Software Engineer is one of the highest-paying jobs. Our programmes have a strong industrial dimension through the real world cases which are examined, studied and practiced in the courses. Our graduates are high-calibre professionals ready for the largest and most rapidly developing sectors of the world economy.” All programmes are addressed to candidates who hold an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline. The programmes will be taught in English and will be offered both in full-time and part-time mode, starting the academic year 2015-16. Classes will be taking place on weekdays during afternoon hours.
