Marketing Seminar ‘From Guerilla to Gorilla’ by Dr Dimitriadis

Dr Nikos Dimitriadis, Lecturer at the Executive MBA of CITY College, delivered a very successful and insightful marketing seminar in Thessaloniki, on 3 November 2014. During the two-hour seminar entitled, “From Guerilla to Gorilla: Marketing rules we need to forget and some we need to remember” Dr Dimitriadis touched upon the latest developments in marketing, the challenges that marketing is facing through the rough times of crisis focusing on the need for marketers to change their mentality and practice. In his presentation Dr. Dimitriadis explained why marketers need to urgently abandon ‘common sense’ and embrace new and old practices in order to make marketing work.

English Studies Department Induction

The Induction Week of the English Studies Department was filled with informative and social sessions in which the new students, but also College Administration and Staff participated with equal enthusiasm! Among the highlights of the Induction, students experienced an introduction to the Programmes, Courses and College Services of the International Faculty, team-building activities, workshops, meetings with personal tutors, and plenty of opportunities to get to know each other. Dr Antonia Ypsilanti presented a paper at CEDEFOP's workshop

On the 21 and 22 of October Dr Antonia Ypsilanti, Lecturer at the Psychology Department of the International Faculty  presented a paper titled "Intergenerational learning: An effective strategy for work-based learning in CVET" at CEDEFOP (Centre Européen pour le Développement de la Formation Professionnelle) in Thessaloniki, Greece. The abstract of the presentation (which was one of the 6 papers to be presented at the workshop) is the following:   Intergenerational learning: An effective strategy for work-based learning in CVET By  Ropes Donald, Holland University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands and Dr Ypsilanti Antonia, South East European Research Center, Thessaloniki, Greece   Work-based learning (WBL) is becoming increasingly important to enterprises because of decreased training budgets as well as the realization that effective VET is embedded in the workplace itself. Furthermore, enterprises are more aware of the need to involve all ages in the CVET process. One way to do this is to organize intergenerational learning in the workplace. Intergenerational learning (IGL) is a type of work-based learning involving knowledge building, learning and innovation between generations in an organization.It is an effective way people from different ages, learning styles, values and motivations learn together (Ropes 2013). Examples of IGL include mentoring programs, mixed-age teams, and training programs specifically aimed at promoting interaction and learning among generations. This paper aims to illustrate the possibilities of IGL as WBL by presenting the results of a large-scale applied research project on organizing IGL in 43 enterprises across six EU countries. The IGL Toolkit (see www.intergenerationallearning.eu) was developed and systematically tested for efficacy together with 43 enterprises in four different sectors. Cultural and sectoraldiversity were considered throughout the entire process. Findings show IGL as an effective strategy for work-based learning in CVET, particularly in enterprises interested in capitalizing on the experience of older employees.Many barriers and critical success factors for implementing IGL were also found. IGL provides a unique and sustainable learning environment. This research can help policy makers to understand how to implement IGL as well as other types of WBL effectively.     The workshop was addressed to European and national policy-makers, including social partners, and other key stakeholders working in the field of continuing vocational education and training (CVET) such as human resources managers, training providers and researchers. Through presentations and interactive sessions, the workshop aimed to share new knowledge and practical experience in work-based learning and to discuss their implications for policy and practice. The focus was on: 1. Effective use of work-based learning in CVET in firms; 2. How public policy and new forms of governance can support good practice. CITY College supported and sponsored the 7th Multi-Conference on Innovation & Development

CITY College, the University of Sheffield International Faculty sponsored the succesfull 7th Multi-conference on Innovation & Development. On the 10th and 11th of October, at Porto Palace Hotel, Thessaloniki was the centre of the Greek business world. Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Growth were the main topics. The entire city participated in the public discussion about green development, green cities, green business and the trade relations between Greece and Germany. The discussion also included successful business models, the Next Generation, the challenges faced by Greek start-ups during development and the thematic tourism which is a source of development of our country. "Innovation in Education" and "Green Logistics" by CITY College On the 10th of October Mr. George Efstathiadis, Director of the Executive MBA programme presented the speech “Innovation in Education: The Executive MBA of the International Faculty of The University of Sheffield in the South East and Eastern Europe”. Furthermore on Saturday 11th of October  Dr Lambros Lazouras, who is the administrator in Greece of the European programme "Promoting Environmentally Sustainable SMEs" presented the speech: «Green Logistics». Prof. Panagiotis Ketikidis, Vice-Principal of the International Faculty and Chairman of the Triple Helix Association also participated in the same panel titled: "Mechanisms of Development and Potentials of the Green Entrepreneurship". The conference was organised by the only internet channel in Greece which deals with innovation and development, the www.ka-business.gr. Mr Giovanni Serafini at the annual MHRA Conference in Skopje

On the 3rd of October, the 6th MHRA Annual Conference was held in Skopje. The conference's topic was “HR Standards & Best Practices” and once again it attracted the interest of many HR professionals and specialists.  Mr Giovanni Serafini, lecturer at the International Faculty addressed the impact of HR practices on organizational success. Furthermore, in the frame of the conference Mr Serafini gave an interview which was published in "Sloboden Pecat". After the completion of the conference presentations, the announcement of the winner of HR manager in 2014 was made. STRATEGICA Academic International Conference 2014

2-3 October 2014, Bucharest Our Lecturers Dr Dimitrios Nikolaidis and Dr Anastasios Karamanos, as well as Mr Bakatselos and our student Ms Ioana Manussos participated in the STRATEGICA Academic International conference which took place in Bucharest on the 2-3 October 2014.  The team of experts presented the following papers on the thematic subjects:  Finance George Bakatselos and Dr Anastasios Karamanos presented  the paper "Abnormal stock market returns to announcements of M&A banking deals in Greece 1996-2013"   Marketing Dr. Dimitrios V. Nikolaidis and Ms Ioana Manussos presented the paper "The influence of Public Relations in nation branding: the case of Bucharest"     The 2014 edition of the STRATEGICA international conference  discussed the evolutions of the business environment in the context of new governments’ policies and international institutions’ measures after-crisis. It also explored the relevance of ethics, values and standards at individual, institutional and social levels in the world of finance and business, considering both a macro-level approach and a micro-level one. It was a great opportunity for interdisciplinary discussions and debates on the new business models arising, the new behaviors in management and the role of ethics and corporate social responsibility, by bringing together international experts, researchers and scholars.   The conference is organized yearly by the College of Management  from the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration in Romania (NUPSPA) in partnership with the National Bank of Romania.   The conference welcomed papers related to broad areas of Economics, Management, Marketing, Banking and Ethics.   Read more about the conference at strategica-conference.ro   View the Conference photos

Seminar by Mr Stelios Kehaghias to the Coca-Cola staff in Serbia

3rd Thessaloniki International Symposium in World Affairs

The Northern Greece Entrepreneurs Cultural Society and the Navarino Network organise with the cooperation of the Foundation Konrad Adenauer and the South East European Research Centre of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, the 3rd Thessaloniki International Symposium in World affairs, on the 12th of October at the Olympion Theatre in Aristotelous Square. The International Symposium has generated the interest of the people of Thessaloniki, especially of the young generation and has already established a communication platform focusing on the critical political and economical challenges of the world. The International Symposium aspires to include the city of Thessaloniki to this dialogue. Seminar on ‘Concept and Project Evaluation Techniques’ by Dr Nikolaidis

Dr Dimitrios V.
