Personal & Professional Development Webinar: Becoming a skilled communicator: an invaluable 21st century skill
Tuesday, 7 November 2023 Join and share! Online Participation Form Join the Webinar Speaker: Ms Maria-Araxi Sachpazian Lecturer at the Humanities Department CITY College, University of York Europe Campus Overview: Our daily lives are steeped in oral communication, so it is not an exaggeration to say that our lives are dominated by speech events. From a post on Instagram to a professional presentation, people have to use their communicative abilities and critical thinking skills to put forward their thoughts, feelings and arguments in a concise and attention-grabbing way. Being unable to articulate a clear voice and lacking the skill to present one’s point of view can impede successful communication. This session aims to pinpoint the characteristics of effective communication and to identify attributes that skilled communicators possess. Mention will be made of impediments that lead to communication breakdowns while the role of strong emotions such as rage or passion will be examined to clarify why they may not be conducive to effective communication. Finally, the session will provide tips as to how participants can hone their communication skills.
