Open Seminar and Workshop in Skopje: "Deep Learning Neural Networks"
Join CITY College, University of York Europe Campus Open Seminar and Workshop on "Deep Learning Neural Networks" by Dr Konstantinos Dimopoulos Associate Professor, Academic Director for postgraduate programmes Wednesday, 17th of May 2023 Netaville, Nicola Tesla 9, Skopje 1000 Agenda: 12.00 – 12.15 Welcome 12.15 – 13.45 Seminar on “An introduction to Deep Learning Neural Networks” Seminar Overview An introduction to Artificial Neural Networks and Deep Learning In this seminar we will discuss how the human brain inspired us to create programs that very naively approximate the working of a brain, and therefore learn by example. We will look at the kind of problems that these programs (Artificial Neural Networks) can solve, how digital information can be presented to them and how they can be used to provide answers. Finally we will briefly talk about what Deep Learning is and how it has helped us to overcome the limitations we had until recently, thus being able to develop systems like ChatGPT. 13.45 – 14.00 Coffee Break 14.00 – 15.30 Workshop: “Practical Deep Learning with Python” Workshop Overview Using Google Colab to build and train Artificial Neural Networks Google's Colaboratory, or “Colab” for short, is a product from Google Research. Colab allows anybody to write and execute arbitrary python code through the browser, and is especially well suited to machine learning, data analysis and education. We will see how to use Colab in order to build a simple NN, and then we will then train the Neural Network to solve a simple problem. 15.30 – 16.00 Conclusions and Delivery of Certificate of Attendance In the frame of the Open Seminar, participants will have the opportunity to attend a short presentation of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus in Thessaloniki, Greece and lead to Bachelors and Masters degrees awarded by the University of York. HRM Guest Lecture on 'Compensation, Benefits and Reward' by Sinéad McCotter
Masters students of the Business Administration & Economics Department attending the MSC in Management (Human Resource Management) programme at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus had the extraordinary opportunity to attend an online presentation by Sinéad McCotter, Chartered Fellow CIPD, Fellow HEA on 'Compensation, Benefits and Reward: A theoretical context and a future focus'. The guest lecture was offered on the 27th of April 2023 as part of the Human Resource Policies & Practices module led by Dr Giovanni Serafini. This online session provided a theoretical context for the challenges that organizations face in compensating their employees in the Post COVID-19 era. Most critically, Sinéad McCotter Chartered Fellow CIPD, Fellow HEA discussed what employers and HR practitioners need to consider when deciding how to compensate and reward their employees, especially given the rapidly changing world of work and global economic uncertainty. The presentation also addressed the reward strategies to attract, recruit, and retain Generation Z in the context of public sector organizations. Research has found that the background and life experiences of Gen Z influenced their work values and reward preferences. Furthermore, gender plays a role in the importance Gen Z places on distinct rewards. Overall, Gen Z is attracted to specific extrinsic and intrinsic rewards, making public sector organizations a viable employer of choice for this youngest generational workforce. Another critical insight shared relates to the increasing popularity of cryptocurrency, which has led to growing interest from prospective and existing employees in receiving payment in this form. This has prompted compensation professionals to consider incorporating cryptocurrency into their compensation strategies. While offering cryptocurrency as a form of payment can present an innovative compensation plan, it is essential to be aware of the complexities and potential challenges involved. Namely, employers need to be aware of the pertinent legal and regulatory factors, administrative challenges, and associated risks linked to integrating cryptocurrency into their compensation strategies. A great thank you to McCotter for delivering an insightful and engaging guest lecture on major compensation issues. The importance of total reward and its relevance for achieving sustainable competitive advantage has been of great value to the class!
