This summer a group of students from CITY College, University of York Europe Campus had the opportunity to join an exciting Summer School run at the University of York, UK. During the two-week summer prorgramme, themed 'British Culture and Skills', our students had the opportunity to expand their knowledge of British culture and get a better understanding of the cultural differences between their home country and the UK. Apart from the lectures and seminars the programme included a lot of social activities and trips to sites of historical interest in York and its surroundings. Our students visited the beautiful city of York as well as the York Minsterand, while they also went on a full-day trip to the seaside town of Whitby - famous for the beautiful abbey – where they enjoyed some of the best fish and chips in the north of England. They also visited Goathlands train station, famous for being the backdrop for some scenes in the first Harry Potter movie. Students also enjoyed social activities that included a film afternoon, shopping trips with York student mentors and also a sports and games afternoon also organised by York student mentors. During the programme our students met and interacted with other students from York and other universities. The summer programme at the University of York proved to be is a great learning experience for our students who came back excited by the overall experience at York! I fully enjoyed the company of the other international students and I learned a lot of new information about cultural etiquette around the world and in Britain as well through the British culture course. Finally, the trip to Whitby was wonderful and I would suggest that everyone visits Whitby Abbey at the top of the cliff. Konstantinos
