The Boris Trajkovski Scholarship Award Ceremony 2021 in Skopje
On 6 December 2021 twenty (20) Boris Trajkovski scholarship recipients were awarded their Executive MBA scholarship during the Awarding Ceremony held in Skopje by Mr. Stevo Pendarovski, the President of the Republic of North Macedonia. The scholars will have the opportunity to attend the prestigious Pan-European Executive MBA programme in Thessaloniki, jointly offered by CITY College, University of York Europe Campus and the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Strasbourg. The awarding ceremony took place at the President’s Villa, in Skopje with Mr. Yannis Ververidis, Principal of CITY College Europe Campus, as well as Mrs. Mila Carovska, Minister of Education and Science. It is the 19th consecutive year for the Boris Trajkovksi Scholarships to be offered and provide the opportunity to scholars from the country to study for an Executive MBA degree in Thessaloniki. The Boris Trajkovski EMBA scholarship programme is co-founded by CITY College and the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Business students visit Capsis Hotel in Thessaloniki
The last study visit before Christmas Holidays, for the students of the Business Administration and Economics Department of CITY College University of York Europe Campus attending the unit “Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism” was addressed in Capsis Hotel of Thessaloniki. The Sales & Revenue Manager of the Capsis group of Hotels, Mrs Anatoli Kapnidou, had an inspection and a fruitful discussion with students pertaining to sales and revenue management (RM) strategies. During the visit students discovered the different room types, designed and renovated “according to market needs”. Mrs Kapnidou mentioned that hotel Capsis absorbs clients from different markets, who are choosing Thessaloniki as their destination, for different purposes. The core part of the discussion was attributed to revenue management strategies. Mrs Kapnidou analyzed in depth the rate plans and the related tools that optimize the rate performance. It was highlighted that Revenue Management is about selling “the right room, to the right customer, at the right price, for the right time”. The Dynamic pricing, is stemming from the airline industry back to the 80s, however in the hospitality business in Greece it was introduced relatively later. Capsis’ Hotel secret of success is the teamwork and the ongoing education of the staff. In the words of Mrs Kapnidou “we are not overpromising, but we deliver on our promises” Students were delighted and as they said “amazed by the robust strategy of Capsis Hotel in the market”. Capsis Hotel is a four-star family business hotel, the largest city hotel of Northern Greece, featuring 407 rooms, 18 conference halls, outside pool area and the well known “Polis Hamam area. Integration4all platform, a useful online tool for working in Greece
The International Organization for Migration and CITY College, University of York Europe Campus in Thessaloniki joined forces to create the www.integration4all.gr platform, aiming at providing practical information towards the successful inclusion of recognized refugees and asylum seekers into the labor market and the Greek society. The online platform which has been developed by students of the Computer Science Department of CITY College addresses potential employees and employers and contains information about working in Greece - including legal rights and obligations - and guidance on how to search for a job, write a CV, or prepare for an interview. A special section is dedicated to the educational component and learning opportunities, where refugees and asylum seekers can further enhance their skills. “With this online and user – friendly tool we want to strengthen access to accurate information about the working environment in Greece”, said Gianluca Rocco, Chief of IOM Mission in Greece. “There are many skilled migrants in Greece that have the right and are willing to work in jobs that are in need of workforce; it is important to support these people for the benefit of migrant and hosting communities. This joint initiative between IOM and CITY College is also a concrete response to the needs of many employers in Greece” he added. The website is available in both the Greek and the English language, with the option to support other languages through a Google translation widget. Dr Dimitris Dranidis, Head of the Computer Science Department of CITY College Europe Campus added: “We are very proud of the work done by our students to develop this important tool for IOM that will have a positive and direct impact on the individual, the work market and the society. It is in the philosophy of our Computer Science Department to take action and offer solutions to a wide range of human and social issues by providing, through our final year students Industrial Projects, software and IT solutions that will benefit the public good. Our fruitful cooperation with IOM is the outcome of this philosophy and l would like to thank IOM, our students and professors for bringing it to life”. The web application has been developed by CITY College Computer Science undergraduate and postgraduate students as part of the Industrial Project module in their curriculum. Under the supervision of their Computer Science professors, students have worked on the website development and created an End User Manual for IOM to be able to edit content, manage the website and resolve basic troubleshooting issues (more information about the Industrial Project can be found at: invent.york.citycollege.eu). The development of the website with content on employability and Greek language learning tools, was a joint collaboration between the IOM Community Engagement, the Non-Formal Education and Employability teams and the teachers and students of the Department of Computer Science of CITY College, University of York Europe Campus that it is based in Thessaloniki, Greece. The IOM Community Engagement and Non – Formal Education teams which operate under the umbrella of the EU - SMS project and the Employability team of the EU – Funded HELIOS project respectively, partnered in designing the site’s layout and developing relevant content and educational tools to empower and equip the asylum seekers and recognized refugees with valuable information and increase their potential towards integrating in the local labour market. The creation of the website has been implemented under the framework of the Cooperation Agreement signed between IOM Greece and CITY College Europe Campus (york.citycollege.eu), which also includes ICT courses for beneficiaries in open accommodation sites.

Guest lecture on Project Management by our alumna, Agapi Kyrtzidou, Consultant at Deloitte
Students from our Business Administration & Economics Department had the opportunity to attend a very interesting guest lecture on Project Management by Ms Agapi-Chrysi Kyrtzidou, Consultant at Deloitte and CITY College alumna. Ms Kyrtzidou presented the steps to be followed in handling a number of parallel work projects such as, workflow optimisation, team management and task assignment, real-time team collaboration analysis and improving processes, thus increasing business efficiency. She also presented the pros and cons of different PM tools and relative software available. Apart from the lecture topic, students were also interested to know of Ms. Kyrtzidou's educational background and career development at Deloitte. The guest lecture took place in the context of the 'Decision Making with IT' unit, taught by Dr. Andrew Salisbury and was supported by our Career, Employability and Enterprise Centre.

Business students visit Grand Hotel Palace, a five-star hotel in Thessaloniki
Hotel and Hospitality track students of the Business Administration & Economics Department, CITY College University of York Europe Campus, visited Grand Hotel Palace in Thessaloniki to meet and discuss with senior executives current trends in the industry as part of their unit Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism. Students were accompanied by Dr. Lemonia Papadopoulou-Kelidou. Mr. Yiannis Aslanis, General Manager, offered a warm hospitality to CITY College’s delegation, while Mrs Maria Chatziparaschi, Guest Relations Manager and Mrs Katerina Toutziari, Director of Sales and Revenue, shared with students their knowledge and experience pertaining to guest relations, sales and marketing issues. Grand Hotel Palace is a five-star hotel, operating since 2004 and counting 259 rooms including 8 suites. Mrs Chatziparaschi and Mrs Toutziari underlined that being honest with customers is the strongest tip of success. Caring about your customers, decoding their body language and offering customized services via team work is the backbone of the corporate culture of the hotel. Mrs Toutziari underlined the importance of being aware of the product, the destination, the competitors as well as the imperative need to create collaborations within the market. Targets’ achievement, according to Mrs Toutziari, is based on sharing goals with employees and on raising awareness of the general engraved strategy since “everybody is doing sales in a hotel”. Students visited renovated rooms and suites, conference rooms, restaurant and breakfast area while small presents were kindly offered to them, as a kind gesture of their truly warm hospitality. CITY College, University of York Europe Campus and Tourism Observatory sign a Cooperation Agreement
A mutually-beneficial collaboration between CITY College and the Tourism Observatory Areas of collaboration include data analysis and management and communication activities A unique opportunity for real work-based student experience in the Tourism industry: BAED students will get actively involved in the project Promoting collaboration between academia and industry while at the same time offering back to society CITY College, University of York Europe Campus signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Tourism Observatory, a Silver-Award winner (Tourism Awards 2021) service that captures the demand (requests) and the valid direct reservations in hotels and accommodation providers and vacation rentals in specific geographical areas of Greece. It is founded by the following leading companies in the sector: Nea Mesa Tourism Marketing & Sales, ΒοοkOnlineNow, Hotel Availabilities, Syncbnb, The Data Appeal Company, OTA insight. The reports created will be publicly available, thus useful information will be accessible to the public. Students will be working systematically with the team of Tourism Observatory and will be supervised by Dr. Lemonia (Lenia) Papadopoulou-Kelidou and Dr Giovanni Oscar Serafini of the Business Administration & Economics Department. Guest Lecture by distinguished Economist and Neuroscientist, Dr Edgar Sanchez, for BAED students
Students from our Business Administration & Economics Department had the opportunity to attend a very interesting guest lecture by Dr Edgar Sanchez, Economist and Neuroscientist on ‘Experiential Marketing, A new approach in Sales & Marketing’. Dr Sanchez has more than 10 years of prior professional experience in positions such as Brand Management and Consultant in Multinational companies such as Yahoo, Granini, Lavinia Interactiva. The first part of the seminar covered the new conditions in the world of business such as market and information saturation. This included how this reality demands new ways to approach customers. In the second part, the different components of Experiential Marketing were actively discussed, especially those related to brain and mind processes: decision making, emotions, memory, among others. Practical case studies were examined to illustrate implementations of all those components of the Experiential Marketing.

Company visit by BAED students at Hotel ONOMA
A unique opportunity for our students to visit a five star tech friendly hotel Our students discussed the role of technology in hospitality and in customised/personalised services Bringing students closer to the industry Students of the Business Administration & Economic Department of CITY College, University of York Europe Campus participated in a study visit at Hotel ONOMA as part of the unit "Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism" on 30 November 2021. Ms Christine Kartali, Events and Sales Manager, and Ms Katerina Salikyriaki introduced the "Seeker", the mascot of Hotel ONOMA, to the students. The Seeker is a representation of the modern traveler who is seeking for new experiences while discovering the world. Holding a bag and on the go, the Seeker is a modern interpretation of the archaic “Kouros” meeting the contemporary action figures. Seeker's motto "Seeker seeks and seeker finds" The main aim of the study visit was to shed light on the practical significance of technology in hospitality and in customised/personalised services. Students had the opportunity to discuss in the "homework" area of the hotel the "smart" philosophy of the hotel and the application of technology in hospitality services, in sales, in marketing and in boosting a hotel's competitive advantage. Hotel ONOMA is a five star tech friendly hotel, operating since January 2021 in Thessaloniki, focusing on the guest and exploiting technology to offer customized personal services that perfectly fit to each guest's identity. Company visits are a vitally important part of the student experience at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus, as they give to students the opportunity to widen their horizons, get exposed to the real business world, contemporary business practices and enhance theoretical practice.

Professor Panayiotis Ketikidis, Vice President for Research, Innovation and External Relations at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus, participated as invited speaker in ‘Tax Forum 2021: Future-Proof Taxation.Shapping behavior and economics performance’ organised by the American Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, 15-16 November. Prof. Ketikidis participated in the panel ‘Startup ecosystem Tax Incentives Development’ and shared his views together with the other two participants, namely Mr. Christos Dimas, Deputy Minister of Development and Investments and Ms. Katerina Pramatari, Founding Partner, Uni.Fund.
