An exciting speech by Dr Dimitriadis at the 'Inspire to Higher' event in Bulgaria
Dr. Nikolaos Dimitriadis, the Programme Lead of our MSc in Neuromarketing, delivered an exciting keynote speech at Inspire to Higher, the latest event of the Real Estate Association of Bulgaria, titled: "Neuromarketing: Decisions that the Consumer Makes"! Dr. Dimitriadis spoke about applying neuroscience to marketing and for the urgent need to change the way we communicate based on scientific insights from studying the human brain. Hospitality expert delivers guest lecture to BAED students
On Tuesday 16 November 2021 students of the Business Administration & Economics Department of CITY College, University of York Europe Campus had the extraordinary opportunity to attend an online presentation by Mr. Kostas Karabelias, General Manager, Nikki Beach Resort & Spa, Santorini (Greece). The title of the presentation was "Adaptability: the key to success in the hospitality industry" and the audience followed this event as part of the third-year Hospitality Services Management unit led by Dr. Giovanni Serafini. Thanks to his remarkable, multinational experience, Mr. Kostas Karabelias discussed adaptability in the hospitality industry because he recognises it as the key to success. Mr. Karabelias first overviewed the exclusive hospitality operations of Nikki Beach Resort & Spa, Santorini (Greece) before discussing some key insights attained throughout his impressive career. His presentation addressed the challenges and opportunities in the hospitality industry, the role of technology and booking platforms, as well as the importance of employee recruitment. To this end, Mr. Karabelias stressed the need for hospitality professionals to be creative, flexible, and committed to service quality. It was an outstanding event bringing a key industry voice to BA (Hons) in Business Studies/Hotel & Hospitality classes at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus.

An exciting guest lecture by successful start-up entrepreneurs, Toli and Christine Lerios
A very interesting and exciting guest talk by Mr. Tolis Lerios and his wife Christine was delivered at our main campus in Thessaloniki. CITY College students had the opportunity to hear first hand, about the experiences, the successes and the mishaps of Mr. and Mrs. Lerios, throughout their twenty year career as "serial entrepreneurs," with involvement in numerous IT companies, startups and projects in the U.S. and abroad. A long period of vivid Q and A followed the talk. The event, which was co-organized with SEERC and EPY (Greek Computers Society), was part of the Computer Science Professional Development Seminars, but it was also open to students from all departments and EPY members. The event was coorganised with EPY.

ESD students and alumni praised on their excellent work subtitling forty films for the Thessaloniki International Short Film Festival
The English Studies Department of CITY College, University of York Europe Campus has successfully completed its collaboration with the Thessaloniki International Short Film Festival. Current students and alumni of our MA in Translation and Interpreting completed an internship subtitling forty films which featured in the TiSFF 2021 and did a praiseworthy, professional job! Under the supervision of Dr Kelly Pasmatzi, Assistant Professor at the English Studies Department, our current and former students were able to practise and sharpen some of the skills they acquired through the ESD MA in Translation and Interpreting programme within the context of one of the most important short film festivals in Europe. We would like to congratulate all of them for pushing their limits, delivering professional results, being open to experimentation and having excelling team-working skills and know-how. Dr. Kelly Pasmatzi, who supervised the project commented: “Collaborating with the Thessaloniki International Short Film Festival and being able to offer our students and alumni the opportunity to participate in such a project was one of the most rewarding experiences CITY College has offered me. The experience was made all the more excellent because of the specific cohort of participants who were always so willing to take initiative and face challenges, serious about their work and stubbornly committed to learning and solving problems. Michaella, Maria, Theofile, Maria, Stella and Antonia, kudos on doing a fantastic job!” Dr Kelly Pasmatzi What students who participated in the project said about their experience: “Subtitling for the Thessaloniki International Short Film Festival as part of my internship from the English Studies Department-CITY College, University of York Europe Campus was an awesome experience! Despite encountering some challenges, I enjoyed the whole procedure immensely! What I found mesmerising was the fact that not only could I watch the film since I am a cinephile but also practise and enhance my translation skills. Talk by Dr Klados at York Festival of Ideas
Dr Manousos Klados, Associate Professor at our Psychology Department participated in this year's York Festival of Ideas with a talk on “Controlling Computers with Our Minds”. Can we really control computers with our brain? In his talk Dr Klados explained why the answer is yes. In his talk he said that this is made possible using a brain–computer interface (BCI) - a direct communication pathway between the brain and the computer. He also discussed how brain-computer interface became a reality, by looking more closely at the technological advancements in available devices such as predictive models. Watch Dr Klados’ talk

Prof. Ketikidis and Prof. Paraskakis among invited speakers οf the European Angel Investment Summit (EBAN)
Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis, Vice President for Research and Innovation and Prof. Iraklis Paraskakis have been invited to participate as speakers in the European Angel Investment Summit (EBAN) that will take place online 27-28 October 2021. The event will bring together many distinguished speakers and is expected to attract hundreds of investors, selected startups, policymakers and corporates. The Summit will focus on two main topics: Building a Better Future with Every Investment – Technologies to Reach SDGs and Overcoming the Challenges Angels Face in Europe – Cross Border Investing; Public-Private Co-Investment; Creating More Exits for Angel Investors.

Induction Week 2021 – Welcoming our students back to our campus!
Face-to-face education for the new academic year Welcoming our students back to our main campus in Thessaloniki during Induction Week 2021 A warm welcome to our first-year students, the first cohort of students of the University of York programmes Returning to campus life, with all necessary health and safety measures A very warm welcome awaited all new and returning students at the re-opening of our campus during Induction Week 2021 at our main campus in Thessaloniki. This year’s Induction was a very special one, as we welcomed the very first cohort of first-year students who will be attending University of York undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus. Professor Charlie Jeffery, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of York sent a warm welcome message to our first-year students with a video. With safety measures implemented across our campus, the Induction Week introduced our undergraduate and postgraduate students to CITY College and prepare them for the academic year ahead. Students participated in welcome sessions, team building activities, meetings with personal tutors and information sessions so as to have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new academic environment and discover the facilities, the Library (ILC) and the academic and professional opportunities which are available to them. Both students and staff enjoyed the induction week’s activities which always are the best way to start the academic year. Wishing a great academic year to all our students! CITY College Europe Campus among the co-organisers of the 8th Technology Forum in Thessaloniki
CITY College, University of York Europe Campus was among the co-organisers of the 8th Technology Forum, a major technology event that took place successfully in Thessaloniki, 14 October 2021, in the frame of @Beyond 4.0 international exhibition. Dr Simos Veloudis, Research Director at the Computer Science Department of CITY College Europe Campus and Senior Researcher at our research centre, SEERC, coordinated successfully the digital health session of the event. The event was well-attended and featured distinguished speakers who shared their views and expertise on seminal contemporary topics. Among them were Apostolos “Toli” Lerios, Former Mentor, Serial Entrepreneur and Engineer and cofounder of Metanautix, Timos Sellis, Adjunct Professor at Swinburne University of Technology (Australia), Fellow ACM, IEEE Research Scientist at Facebook (USA), Dana Eleftheriadou, Head of Cities and Proximity Team, European Commission, DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs and many others. CITY College, University of York Europe Campus recognises the value of extroversion and is highly involved in events organised by different organisations and associations to further promote the link between academia and industry.
