Representatives of CITY College Europe Campus at the the inauguration of Cisco's Center for Digital Transformation & Digital Skills in Thessaloniki
CITY College, University of York Europe Campus representatives, namely, Mr Yannis Ververidis, President and Principal, Dr Nikos Tsorakidis, Dean for External Engagement and New Developments of our Business Department and Dr Dimitris Dranidis, Head of the Computer Science Department attended the inauguration of Cisco's Center for Digital Transformation & Digital Skills in Thessaloniki, on Friday, 18 October 2021. Student-volunteers, Antonis Antoniadis from the Computer Science Department and Georgios Michaloudis from the Business Administration & Economics Department, also joined the event in order to promote ‘ALL-LINE’, a recently launched project run by CITY College, University of York Europe Campus in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Digital Transformation and Digital Skills Center (DT&S) – Cisco. The project is coordinated by the Computer Science Department and aims at educating citizens and help them embrace new technologies and digital skills. CITY College was invited to the event as it officially supports as an educational institution the initiatives of Cisco through a MoU of collaboration which foresees cooperation in common research projects, relevant studies, development of innovative projects, creation of educational programmes and many more. The event was well-attended by business, industry and government representatives. Among others, present at the event were Mr Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of Digital Governance, Mr. Christos Dimas, Deputy Minister of Research & Innovation, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, Minister for Development and Investment, and Mr. Konstantinos Zervas, Mayor of Thessaloniki. Ms Maria-Araxi Sachpazian represents ESD at the International Conference on Language Education and Research
Ms Maria-Araxi Sachpazian, Lecturer at the English Studies Department of CITY College, University of York Europe Campus delivered a presentation at the 3rd International Conference on Language Education and Research, which was organised by the Applied Language Studies House and the Journal of Applied Languages and Linguistics and was carried out online from 1st to the 3rd October 2021. Ms Sachpazian presented her preliminary work on a research project entitled “Is this a forgotten hand: issues of learners’ cognitive engagement in Digital Learning Environments”. The presentation aimed to explore from a bibliographical perspective the reasons why learners of English in secondary and tertiary education failed to exploit digital learning environments during the online teaching made necessary by the pandemic and why their cognitive engagement left so much to be desired.

Prof. Ketikidis and Prof. Szamosi participate in Conference on Green Development in Yerevan
Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis, Vice President for Research, Innovation and External Relations, and Prof. Leslie Szamosi, Director of the Pan-European Executive MBA, participated in a successful conference on green development and management that took place in Yerevan, 30 September 2021 at the Marriott Hotel. From left to right: Prof. Leslie Szamosi, Mr. John Gallagher, UK Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis Prof. Szamosi welcomed participants of the conference entitled “Going Green: A Global and Armenian Perspective on Sustainable Development and Management: a precursor to the Climate Change Global Summit in Glasgow’, while Prof. Ketikidis was one of the keynote speakers of the event and spoke about ‘Greening the supply chain and development of the circular economy’. Mr. John Gallagher, UK Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia also addressed the first keynote speech of the event. The event featured many distinguished speakers who shared their knowledge and views on the topic. The event was successful overall and was supported by the British Embassy Yerevan and took place in partnership with CITY College, University of York Europe Campus.

Launch of the fifth Programme for Management Development for EBA members in Kyiv
The fifth season Programme for Management Development run by CITY College was successfully launched 18 September 2021 in Kyiv with Prof. Leslie Szamosi, Director of our Executive MBA, delivering a course on "HR Management and Organisational Behaviour" to a new group of participants. The Programme for Management Development is offered to members of our educational partner in Kyiv, the European Business Association (EBA). In his presentation Prof. Szamosi reminded participants that every organisation’s most important resource is its people. He went on to discuss how people should be managed, what makes them effective, and what they are looking for is very often misunderstood. “What experience has taught us is that creating a motivated workforce goes well beyond the simple payment of wages” underlined Prof. Szamosi in his seminar. Participants found the first course of the programme particularly insightful. The Programme for Management Development aims at building expertise in core business fundamentals such as digital marketing, finance, strategies, HR, operations, communication, negotiations, innovations as well as help participants develop the capabilities they need to make a difference and succeed in the future.

Dr Sotiris Theofanis, Professor of Practice and Programme Lead of the MSc in Shipping & Port Management participated as invited speaker at an event organized by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy at the 85th Thessaloniki International Fair. Dr Theofanis joined distinguished speakers in a discussion on the National Port Policy and shared his knowledge and expertise with the audience. The event took place successfully and was well attended. Open MBA Seminar on Gamification by Mr Liasidis in Baku
Mr. Chris Liasidis, Associate Professor at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus delivered an insightful Open MBA Seminar on Gamification on 23 September 2021 at the Hilton Baku Hotel. In his seminar entitled “Gamification: The Contemporary Way to Engage Employees and Customers” Mr. Liasidis explained how gamification is used by brands to motivate employees, create healthy competition among teams, generate buzz or social proof, and encourage customer loyalty, among other benefits. He also suggested that with a variety of techniques – some easy to implement, some requiring advanced planning, coding, or technical expertise – any business can use gamification to get better results, no matter what the goals. The event attracted managers and entrepreneurs who had the opportunity to become acquainted with the concept of gamification and found Mr. Liasidis' presentation particularly inspiring. A presentation of the Pan-European Executive MBA delivered in Baku also took place after the seminar. The seminar was followed by a cocktail reception.

Dr Cruz invited as judge in prestigious global online marketing competition, GOMAC 2021
Dr Ana Cruz Congratulations to Dr Ana Cruz on being invited as one of the judges of the Global Online Marketing Academic Challenge (GOMAC 2021). GOMAC is a worldwide competition open to any student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate course at a higher education institution. Student teams, in conjunction with an industry client, compete to create, run, optimize and report on digital marketing campaigns that include Google Ads and any other digital advertising platform/channel. Competition finalists included 103 student teams (414 students) from Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and the United States. The final results were announced 29 September 2021. Dr. Ana Cruz is an Assistant Professor at the Business Administration & Economics Department of CITY College, University of York Europe Campus. She teaches marketing and digital marketing and specializes on what makes content go viral. It was a significant achievement for Dr Ana Cruz to be selected to be one of the judges of GOMAC and contribute her expertise to this prestigious global competition. CITY College congratulates her on her participation and contribution. Dr Cruz commented after the conclusion of the competition: “Congratulations to the Global and regional winners in the Global Online Marketing Academic Challenge 2021. It was an honour being one of the judges. I was impressed by the level of knowledge, strategic thinking and ability to learn and improve as the campaigns progressed. Well done and thank you to all the professors that mentored the teams, to all participating teams and to the organizing committee. Academic Representatives
What is an Academic Representative An academic representative (Academic Rep) is an undergraduate or postgraduate student volunteer who represents students on a programme to their department; communicates class issues to CSU officers, participate to one Student Staff Forum meeting per semester, one senate meeting per semester with the Officers of the CSU, as well as to the biannual student course boards. The recruitment of academic representatives is done every year during the 4th week of the winter semester and the position is held for an entire academic year. All enrolled students are eligible to become academic representatives and hold their position, unless they are on disciplinary probation. Student Volunteers are encouraged to support an educational environment, represent the student body appropriately and should show good citizenship, both on and off campus. CSU and Academic Reps act as the students’ voice and requires a responsible attitude in order to make this voice productively transmitted and received. CITY College alumnus Dimitris Lakasas publishes new book on manufacturing revolution 4.0
Congratulations to our alumnus, Mr Dimitris Lakasas, CEO of Olympia Electronics and Former President of the Greek Exporters Association, on his recently published book on the management of manufacturing revolution 4.0 (book title in Greek: Άνθρωπος 4.0). The book was presented at an event that took place 22 September 2021 in Thessaloniki. Prof. Panayiotis Ketikidis, Vice-President for Research and Innovation also participated in the event and talked about the book. Mr Dimitrios Lakasas, is a graduate of the Business Administration and Economics Department of CITY College. He is a distinguished entrepreneur and member of numerous associations. He is actively involved in the Greek business sector. CITY College warmly congratulates Mr Lakasas on his book!

Successful HR seminar by Prof. Szamosi in Lviv on Working with Millennial and Generation Z
Prof. Leslie Szamosi delivered a successful seminar in Lviv on "Working with Millennials and Generation Z during pandemic" on 15 September for the members of the Western Office of the European Business Association (EBA). Entitled ‘Working with Millennials and Generation Z during a pandemic: A new beginning or the beginning of the end!’ the seminar shed light to the multi-generational workforces with a strong emphasis on the pandemic and Millennials and Z’s and emphasised how organisations need to adapt to these two generations and their potential. Prof. Szamosi discussed how the pandemic has shifted the way generations think and act and the expectations of each generation in terms of what they are looking for from work. He also referred to the way these generations can work more effectively together both with older generations and themselves. Participants gained a clearer understanding of the Millennials and Generation Z and how to best integrate and work with them inside organisations in a post-pandemic world.
