CITY College alumnus receives Prose Award by the Club of UNESCO Art-Literature and Science in Greece
Congratulations to our alumnus, Mr. Yiannis Mylopoulos, on receiving the 2nd Prose Award by the Club of UNESCO Art-Literature and Science in Greece for his story under the title ‘23.23’. The award-winning story - written in Greek - was published by ethnos.gr (the online newspaper of the Greek national newspaper ‘Ethnos’). The story is inspired by the 9/11 attack and that day’s impact on humanity. It stayed in the writer’s drafts for years until the time came for the scenario to be developed and the story to be completed and published. The story’s key message is love in human relationships, the importance of simple things in life and how we tend to forget to enjoy them overwhelmed by the deluge information in today’s fast-paced world. When asked about the award and storytelling Mr Mylopoulos said: “It was definitely a great honour to receive the Unesco Award. However, receiving an award is not my goal when I write. When you like writing it is an integral part of your everyday life. It is an inner process that needs to be expressed. I believe that whatever your job is, your primary goal should not be to win an award or gain recognition but to offer and give back something to society and to promote innovative thinking.” Speaking about his relationship with Marketing Mr. Mylopoulos said: “I first became involved with Marketing back when I was working for Goody’s and when I studied for the MSc in Management at CITY College of course. I could never work in Marketing in a ‘strictly business’ way. Stories are part in everything I do and that is why I prefer working in business storytelling for big corporations, writing scenarios, creating concepts and drafting short stories that contribute to the story that a brand name needs to tell with its ‘brand voice’.” Mr. Mylopoulos is Strategic & Creative Communications Consultant, specialising in creative coaching and digital storytelling and is also owner of Fabrika Storytelling Studio. He graduated from CITY College, International Faculty of the University of Sheffield in 2003 and holds the MSc in Management.

Presenters from our Business and Computer Science Department at The 12th Annual EuroMed Academy of Business Conference in Thessaloniki
A group of presenters from the Business Administration & Economics Department and the Computer Science Department of CITY College together with Dr Alexandros Kapoulas, Research Director and Senior Lecturer at the Department, successfully participated with two interesting presentations in The 12th Annual Conference of the EuroMed Academy of Business Conference that was held 18-20 September 2019 in Thessaloniki, Greece. This year the topic of this major Business Management conference was “Business Management Theories and Practices in a Dynamic Competitive Environment”. Business Administration & Economics Department was represented by a paper from Ms. Natyra Xharavina, PhD Candidate and Dr. Alexandros Kapoulas on the topic “Finding the Way Out of the Netnography Maze – Basic Steps of Conducting Netnography: The Tale of New Researchers in the Field”. An abstract from the Computer Science Department on "Exploring Technological Advancements Dilemmas & Relationship Marketing Practices in the Pharmaceutical Industry of Greece" was also presented by Mr. Konstantinos Giannakopoulos (student at the MSc in Management of Business, Innovation and Technology programme) and Dr. Alexandros Kapoulas. Both presentations were successful and the participants gained the opportunity to create strong networks with a number of international scholars, doctoral students, and business practitioners. Ms. Xharavina and Dr. Kapoulas’ work is a result of an investigation on netnography, a recently established qualitative online method in the marketing field. This study is a part of a trilogy, part I of which has been published in the International Journal of Market Research (other parts are intended to be presented/published in subsequent papers). The paper in EuroMed received very positive feedback and the authors were encouraged to proceed publishing it to Journals. Given the success of this year’s presentations, the participants indent to take part again in the forthcoming EuroMed conference presenting their latest achievements. CITY College encourages its students to participate in conferences and other events and showcase their work gaining an extra opportunity to extend their student experience and get exposed and explore different settings than the normal classroom.
