CITY College alumnus at the Birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the 80th anniversary of the British Council in Greece
CITY College alumnus, Mr Nikolaos Tsokanos had honour to be invited by the British Ambassador HE Ms Kate Smith to attend Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II birthday celebration along with the 80th anniversary of the British Council in Greece. The glamorous reception took place in the British Residence in Athens on 19 June 2019. The British Ambassador HE Ms Kate Smith and Mr Nikolaos Tsokanos This year’s celebrations was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the British Council in Greece and its contribution to the friendship and collaboration between the two countries. Mr. Tsokanos joined the celebrations together with many distinguished guests and representatives of prominent Greek and British businesses and organisations. Mr. Nikolaos Tsokanos completed his undergraduate studies at the Business Administration & Economics Department of CITY College and today is owner and General Manager of Veterinary Wholesaler - TSOKANOS SA.

Annual MBA Study Week 2019 at the University of Sheffield
A unique learning experience for more than 200 managers and business professionals attending the Executive MBA A week at the University of Sheffield full of joint classes, networking and social activities An exciting visit at Jaguar – Land Rover plant at Liverpool for all MBA students More than 200 managers and business professionals attending the Executive MBA of CITY College in 8 countries travelled to Sheffield to participate in this year’s exciting Annual MBA Study Week at the University of Sheffield, UK in June-July 2019. Our Executive MBA students studying in Thessaloniki, Belgrade, Bucharest, Sofia, Kyiv, Yerevan, Tbilisi and for the first time Baku made the most our of the Sheffield Week experience and spent a week full of joint classes, seminars, company visit activities, free time and exciting outings. Escorted by Mr. George Efstathiadis, Director of The Executive Development Institute (EDI) of CITY College and Prof. Leslie Szamosi, Director of the Executive MBA, student participants enjoyed their time at Sheffield and had the opportunity to network with peers from different countries, industries and cultures and share experiences and best practices. In the context of the Sheffield Study Week a company visit took place at Jaguar – Land Rover plant at Liverpool. MBA students got first hand insights from one of UK’s leading companies in the automotive industry and also get a taste of the city of Liverpool. During the visit company representatives presented the corporate goals, strategies, the production process and achievements and also gave a tour of the manufacturing facilities. Also, MBA students of the Healthcare Management track attended special lectures delivered by 3three professors from the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) and Medical Faculty of the University of Sheffield during the study week. Healthcare students also visited a center of Specialised Commissioning of Public Health England in Rotherham. The structure of the Executive MBA programme incorporates the Annual Study Week, which takes place every year the University of Sheffield, enhancing the programme’s international character, providing a brilliant networking opportunity to students. The Annual Study Week in Sheffield is one of the programme’s key attributes during which MBA participants network, learn and have fun at the same time.

Summer trip to Skiathos island for CITY College students
Right after the exam period, CITY College students set off to the beautiful island of Skiathos, for an exciting summer trip where they had the chance to relax, enjoy the sun and the wonderful beaches and start off their summer holidays. The excursion was organised by the Students’ Union (CSU) of CITY College. Student trips bring our student community closer together while students have the opportunity to meet new places, create great memories and experience and learn new things.

End-of-year Party 2019
In honor of the graduates of year 2019 CITY College celebrated the conclusion of their study years and said ‘goodbye’ with a glamorous end-of-year party organised by our Students’ Union (CSU) in Thessaloniki. The party was held at Ocean Club bar 22 June 2019. In a nice atmosphere, with music, drinks and fun our graduates left behind their memorable years at CITY College, a time to remember and cherish for life. New Masters programmes by our Business Administration & Economics Department
Two new Masters programmes responding to today’s industry demands Opportunities to acquire professional experience and skills during studies The Business Administration & Economics Department of CITY College, International Faculty of the University of Sheffield in Thessaloniki announces the launch of two new Masters programmes, starting the upcoming academic year, in October 2019. The new programmes are listed below: MSc in Finance and Risk Management MSc in Business Analytics and Decision Sciences Both programmes are delivered in the English language and can be completed either full-time (1 year) or part-time (2 years). Classes take place on weekday evenings. The MSc in Finance and Risk Management programme has been designed for technically-minded candidates who want a deep, analytical study of risk management and finance and who intend to pursue a quantitative career in the financial services sector. The programme will develop a solid theoretical foundation and practical skills in finance and risk management as well as analytical skills in relation to financial institutions and markets, portfolio management, instruments, and other critical areas. "Following the financial crisis there is a growing demand for professionals who are skilled in financial risk management. Our MSc in Finance and Risk Management is designed to provide you with comprehensive knowledge of the latest challenges in financial markets and the necessary quantitative skills to measure and manage risk." Dr Nikos Tsorakidis Head of Business Administration & Economics Department The MSc in Business Analytics and Decision Sciences programme will provide a unique exposure to current business opportunities, challenges and developments in the area of Business Analytics, Big Data Management and Decision Sciences. The programme will equip students with the highly sought analytics skills and prepare them to solve challenging and complex business problems and make optimised decisions in the big data driven environment. After successful completion of the taught part of the programme, students are given the opportunity for an industry placement, subject to availability and specific criteria set by the Business Administration & Economics Department. "This programme responds to the shortage of analysts capable of understanding data (e.g patterns and relationships) to identify opportunities and to offer valuable information to support senior management decision making. Sectors such as airlines, logistics, energy, marketing, banking, healthcare, insurance, handle big data and are revisiting their processes and practices to optimize operations and profitability. Real-life project for luxury 5* hotel by bachelors students of the Business Department of CITY College
Linking industry and academia Final year students attending the BA (Hons) Business Studies (Hotel and Hospitality) programme of the Business Administration and Economics Department of CITY College undertook and delivered a real-life project for Mediterranean Palace, a 5* luxury hotel in the city centre of Thessaloniki. The project assigned to our students was the Customer Satisfaction Survey for the hotel and the hotel’s new restaurant. Working closely with the management team of the hotel, namely Mr. Yannis Aslanis, General Manager and Ms. Maria Chatziparaschi, Guest Relations Manager, who provided the brief, our students set up and carried out the survey while at the same time made interesting proposals on the hotel’s marketing plan. The management team was impressed by the students’ knowledge, skills and team spirit. The outcomes of the project will be used in the future plans of the hotel while at the same time our students reported that they enjoyed the experience and gained invaluable insights. The project was realised in the context of the Practicum component of the programme. The Practicum is part of the programme of studies of all the Bachelors programmes of the Business Administration & Economics Department. Final year students of the BA (Hons) Business Studies (Hotel and Hospitality) have the opportunity to work on real-life projects in hotel and hospitality units, practise their skills and knowledge, and better understand the links between business theory and practice in authentic settings. The initiative derives from and is in full alignment with CITY College’s philosophy to link the academia with the industry through partnerships involving leading hotel companies in the area.

Real-life project by Business students for the German-Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce
A group of undergraduate students from the Business Administration & Economics Department of CITY College successfully completed and delivered a real-life project assigned to them by the North Greece Branch at German-Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Thessaloniki. Students, namely, Dimitris Christidis, Maria Grammenou, Dea Petropoulou and Antigoni Varvarezou, were asked to carry out a Satisfaction Survey addressed to the members of the Chamber within a period of approximately 2 months. The group of students collaborated with representatives of the Chamber in establishing the goals of the survey, creating of the questionnaire, working on the selected software and following the whole procedure until the completion of the survey. Upon conclusion of the project the students officially presented the survey results to German-Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce representative, Mr. Matthias Hoffmann, Director of North Greece Branch of the Chamber and Ms Alexandra Tavlaridou who congratulated them on the quality of their work. The Career, Employability and Enterprise Centre organised this cooperation with the German-Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce, giving participating students the opportunity to gain through this real-life project insights and invaluable experience within a highly-esteemed organisation.
