Today he works as Senior Associate in KPMG in London and is part of the Deal Advisory - Infrastructure Advisory Group since July 2017. The International Faculty always takes pride in its graduates’ achievements and successes.

Dr Dimopoulos nominated for SURE Supervisor of the Year 2018 Award by the University of Sheffield
Congratulations to Dr Kostas Dimopoulos, Senior Lecturer at our Computer Science Department who has been nominated for SURE Supervisor of the Year 2018 Award! The student-researcher who nominated Dr Dimopoulos stated the following: My supervisor has constantly motivated, inspired and challenged me to carry out this research to the best of my abilities. He has always been there for me whenever I encountered a problem and was very willing to help me overcome those obstacles. He has been a constant motivation and has helped me realize my own potential in this research area. He was constantly focused and committed to the project and was always highly interested to know the problems as well as what I had managed to accomplish in every stage of the project. His expertise, previous experience as well as the constant support and enthusiasm have made this project possible and have motivated me to pursue a research degree in the future. The ‘SURE Academic Supervisor of the Year Award’ rewards academics who have been available and supportive to their SURE student researcher and actively helped him/her to develop both personal and academic skills. The awards comes in recognition of the supervisor’s generosity with their research knowledge and willingness to help, communicate regularly with the student, readily answering questions. Committed to research, the academic staff at the International Faculty CITY College encourages students to get involved in research, and participate in the University of Sheffield SURE Scheme, providing support and guidance along the way. In many cases in the past students from the International Faculty have participated in the SURE Scheme with research projects and won awards.

Introducing new student club: CITY MUN Club
What is MUN? Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate the participants about the current economic, humanitarian issues, topics in international relations, diplomacy, and the United Nations agenda. During the MUN meetings the participants are trained through conference simulations about the basic understanding of the Rules of Procedure, what you need to know when drafting resolutions, the duties and responsibilities of the UN Secretariat, General Assembly, and Security Council officials, the negotiation process that takes place during informal meetings, how consensus is achieved and more. Karate for CITY Women at Warehouse gym
In support of women’s empowerment and body control Aiming at promoting gender equality and women’s body awareness, control, and empowerment, the International Faculty CITY College and CITY’s Student Union (CSU) organised a successful self-defense event on the International Women’s Day, 8 March 2019 at Warehouse gym in Thessaloniki. The class was delivered by our student Ms Kristy Giannakou, CSU Officer for Public Relations and Karate gold medalist in Greek National Karate tournaments, who volunteered to offer a self-defense training session with more than 20 students attending. The class was intentionally guided by a woman, aiming at showcasing an inspiring example of female power, combating gender stereotypes on women’s participation in martial arts. Martial arts help women learn, control and have power over their own body. Participants enjoyed the class and had the chance to familiarise and practice themselves on basic defense moves. Special thanks to Mr Nerantzis Nikolaos Mallidis, Bachelor's and Master's alumnus of the International Faculty, who volunteered for the event and assisted Ms Kristy Giannakou!

An exciting Paintball experience for our students by CSU
On Saturday, 9 March 2019 the Students’ Union (CSU) of the International Faculty CITY College run successfully a paintball event inviting students to experience paintball and have fun. Students who participated challenged each other during the action game and enjoyed the exciting recreational activity.

Call for PhD Applications at SEERC
2019-2020 Deadline: 3 May 2019 The South-East European Research Centre (SEERC) is an overseas research centre of the University of Sheffield, established as a non-profit legal entity in Thessaloniki, Greece. The centre was founded by CITY College, the University's International Faculty, and carries out research in the fields of (i) Enterprise, Innovation & Development, (ii) Information & Communication Technologies, (iii) From Synapses to Society: Psychology in a Multi-cultural World and (iv) Language and Society: Linguistics, Education, Literature and Translation. SEERC announces that it now accepts applications for doctoral studies for the academic year 2019-2020, and offers a small number of Fee Waivers for FULL TIME studies only. Talk on the syndrome of occupational burnout at the ‘Psychology for all’ Series
The opening event of the ‘Psychology for All’ for spring semester presented a very interesting and popular topic on that touched upon the syndrome professional burn out. With her presentation entitled ‘The syndrome of occupational exhaustion (Burn out) and its consequences in my life’, the speaker, Ms Melina Makridou, Health Psychology Counselor and Gestalt Psychotherapist, outlined the symptoms of the syndrome and highlighted the extent it has reached today. Emotional and physical exhaustion, indifferent mood, emotions of low satisfaction are only some of the symptoms. During the event Ms Makridou stressed how important it is for people who suffer from this symptom to realised that they are not alone and seek for help and support to find the meaning of life again. The event was well-attended and maintained the audience engaged throughout the presentation. The series has more events scheduled for Spring Semester. Check them out!
