While in Ukraine, Dr Leslie Szamosi, Director of the Executive MBA programme of the International Faculty, also visited Lviv where he delivered a seminar on 'Getting the Top to Listen'. Building a Business Case" to the members of the Western Office of the European Business Association (EBA). The seminar took place on 21 February 2019. Dr Szamosi’s presentation was focused on guiding participants to get their voice heard and their ideas communicated to members of a company’s or organisation’s top management. “No matter how good our idea, no matter the area, senior management listens to the business case!” argued Dr Szamosi and continued: “When organisations are going through changes or need to re-evaluate and think through new concepts and ideas, many times (if not all times) we need the support of senior management to make things happen. But, it seems like they are not listening!” The seminar concluded with participants having a clearer understanding of what decision-makers are looking for and of how to target them both intellectually and emotionally with information. During the seminar Dr Szamosi shared his knowledge and experience and discussed with participants this very innovative topic.

Our Psychology students explore sensation and perception through experiential project
Undergraduate Psychology students of the International Faculty CITY College had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of sensations and the perception of those sensations through an innovative project introduced by Dr Aristea Ladas, in the frame of the unit Sensation & Perception. Working in groups students were asked to select one project, from a list of projects - all related to the taught material - that they had to prepare and present in class in 10 minutes. Students were allowed to use whatever means they considered relevant and appropriate to present their project (e.g. role playing, small experiments in class, hand craft, electronic means etc.). Students were highly motivated, enjoyed the whole process while at they same time experienced their sensations and perception and learnt from their fellow students’ experiences. Through the project they understood how sensation and perception are closely connected and play two different but complimentary roles in how people interpret the world. Sensation refers to the process of sensing our environment through our sensory receptors, while perception is the process with which the brain interprets the sensation. The project enabled students to put this theory into practice and learn by experimenting with their own sensation and perception. Dr Ladas commented “I was amazed by the creativity and professionalism exhibited by the majority of the groups!”
