Company visit at Gerovassiliou Vineyard by our business students
Our 1st year business students visited Ktima Gerovassiliou Vineyard, one of the biggest vineyards in Northern Greece. Accompanied by Mr Stelios Kehaghias, Senior Lecturer at the Business Administration & Economics Department, students were given a tour at the beautiful vineyard, the winery - where the wine making procedure takes place - and the exquisite museum. During the visit students had the opportunity to learn more about the company’s management, policies, activities and philosophy. The company visit took place in the context of the ‘Introduction to Management unit, led by Mr Kehaghias, and proved to be a particularly interesting, educational and - at the same time - fun experience. Working with industry is crucial in building and enhancing our students’ employability skills. The intention of company visits is to give students, who will soon enter the workforce, exposure to business culture, working environments and contemporary business practices.

Executive MBA Induction in Belgrade
The academic year commenced for the Executive MBA of the International Faculty in Belgrade with the Induction Day that took place on 2 November 2017. Induction was led by Mr. George Efstathiadis, Director of the Executive MBA and Mr Chris Liassidis, Senior Lecturer the programme who warmly welcomed all new students. Our alumnus, Ivan Milosavljevic, General Manager at BC Group Computers, shared his MBA experience with the new students, explaining how the programme gave him valuable insights and helped him in his career. Induction Day was followed by the delivery of the first unit of the Executive MBA, ‘Developing Market Presence’. In the frame of the unit an interesting guest lecture took place by Mr. Vuk Kosovac, Executive Director of Marketing at Societe Generale Bank, Serbia. The Executive MBA has been running since 2006 in Belgrade educating many executives from different industry sectors who are now part of the Sheffield alumni global network. Executive MBA Induction 2017 in Tbilisi
The 19th of October 2017 saw the launch of our Executive MBA in Tbilisi and the commencement of the programme with the Induction Day in its seventh destination country, Georgia. Dr Leslie Szamosi, Academic Director of the programme led the Induction Day, welcoming students and guiding them through the programme’s essentials. The Induction was followed by the delivery of the first unit of the programme, ‘Management Development Unit’. The Official Launch of our Executive MBA took place 12 October with the International Faculty Principal, Mr Yannis Ververidis hosting the event, and Mr. Tamaz Marsagishvili, Deputy Minister of Education of Georgia honouring the event with his presence.

Digital marketing real-life project for the Hellenic Children’s Village by business students
Our business students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in digital marketing and at the same time give back to society with the real-life project they took with the Hellenic Children’s Village, a non-profitable organisation in Filiro, Thessaloniki. Dr Lappas with the group of our business students Students will simulate a consulting project where they will be in contact with the management of the organisation and act as marketing consultants. For the needs of the project, representatives from the Greek Children’s Village will visit the International Faculty CITY College for consulting sessions and students will be provided with the opportunity to visit the Greek Children’s Village in Filyro and interact with its executives and children. Once the project is completed the best two projects will be presented to the management of the organisation. When the digital strategy for 2018 is decided, students may contribute through fund raising activities to the implementation of the digital campaign. This is the first real life, CSR-related project undertaken by the Business administration and Economics Department. Our students will benefit both from gaining professional experience by engaging in this real-life project and offer support for a non-charitable organization through volunteer work. Dr Alexios Lappas, Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist and Scientific Consultant at the Greek Children’s Village in Filyro commented: “I was more than happy to meet and cooperate with such a motivated group of students that engaged with the project! They demonstrated admirable empathy towards the issue of Child Protection and Care and we are looking forward to meet them on the premises of our Village for the second phase of the project.” The project is overviewed by Mr Stelios Kehaghias, Senior Lecturer and Mr Alex Charalampidis, Lecturer at the Business Administration and Economics Department and is in line with the International Faculty’s committment to give back to society and educate its students accordingly.

Fall Student Elections 2017-18 results – Student Senate and Vice President
The 2017-18 electoral period concluded at the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield, CITY College, with the election of the Vice President and the Student Senate elected by the entire student body at the Faculty’s main campus in Thessaloniki. Diamant Hasani, CSU Vice President Diamant Hasani, former CSU President, is the new Vice President who will join the other four members of the Board this year to represent the student body voice. Class representatives forming the Student Senate will also play a critical role in making the voice of each class heard. Diamant commented: "Using the skills that I gained in my previous term, I hope that together with all students, we will bring the best out of our university life - just like we did last year! We have planned various activities that we will do throughout the year, and we will try our best to target different people depending on what they like. Even though the Vice President position is intended to represent mostly the interests of Masters students, I welcome students from all programmes who have ideas or concerns that we, as CSU, can help with, to come forward and contact me directly." The International Faculty congratulates all elected students and wishes them best success for an exciting academic year ahead!

The British Ambassador in Bulgaria at Executive MBA Induction in Sofia
On 2 November 2017 the Executive MBA Induction took place successfully for our new MBA students in Sofia with the British Ambassador in Bulgaria also honouring the event with her presence. Dr Leslie Szamosi opened the academic year, welcomed all our new MBA students and carried out the Induction providing useful information to better prepare students for their studies ahead. MBA students were also welcomed by the British Ambassador in Bulgaria, H.E. Emma Hopkins. In her short speech she told students that this journey that they decided to take in the following years is very important and congratulated them on having the courage to decide to attend such a challenging programme. She said that British Education is one of the biggest exports of the UK and that by becoming Sheffield graduates, they become ambassadors of British Education. She also advised them to feel proud, as British universities are traditionally in the top charts and The University of Sheffield is one of them. Ms. Hopkins also mentioned that she would love to host a second Sheffield Alumni reunion reception at her residence like the previous British Ambassador did for our students some years ago. Sofia is one of the seven destinations for our Executive MBA programme. Many Bulgarian executives have been admitted to the program in the past, who are now part of the strong Sheffield alumni community. The Boris Trajkovski Scholarship Award Ceremony 2017 in Skopje
On 6 November 2017 the Boris Trajkovski scholarship recipients were awarded their Executive MBA scholarship during the Award Ceremony held in Skopje by Dr. Gjorgje Ivanov, the President of the country. The scholars will have the opportunity to attend the prestigious University of Sheffield Executive MBA programme run by the International Faculty in Thessaloniki. The awarding ceremony took place at the President’s Villa, in Skopje with Mr. Yannis Ververidis, Principal of the International Faculty and Mr George Efstathiadis, Director of the Executive MBA representing the University of Sheffield International Faculty as well as the Minister of Education and Science, Dr. Renata Treneska Deskoska. The Boris Trajkovski EMBA scholarship programme is traditionally co-founded by the International Faculty and the country’s Government, and provide the opportunity to scholars to study for a University of Sheffield Executive MBA degree in Thessaloniki.

A tasty company visit to Unismack by our Business Students
Final year marketing students of the Business Administration and Economics Department participated in a ‘tasty’ company visit at Unismack and their brand Wellaby’s. Unismack is a Greek company exporting their innovative snack products to over 11 countries worldwide. It is worth mentioning that one of the company's founders, Mr Alexandros Stratakis is an alumnus of the International Faculty CITY College. During their visit the students visited the manufacturing facility and tried their freshly baked snacks out of the manufacturing line; a truly tasty experience. They also had a presentation by the commercial manager and the Managing director where they explained the company strategy, branding and their marketing communications approach. The visit is part of the unit Integrated Marketing communications lead by Dr. Ana Cruz. Viral video ads student project In the unit the students developed an Integrated Marketing Communications plan and a viral video/advert for the Wellaby’s brand in the UK market. This insightful, strategic, creative and informative visit is part of a key effort to work closely with industry and clients to develop the students’ employability and applied knowledge.
