Successful Export Marketing Seminar by our Business Department
On Saturday, 17 March 2018 the Business Administration and Economics Department (BAED) successfully organised a seminar on ‘Export Marketing’ at the International Faculty’s main campus in Thessaloniki. The event - that was jointly organised by the Greek International Business Association (SEVE) - drew a full house attracting students and export marketing professionals, as international business is becoming increasingly important in today’s interdependent world. The purpose of the seminar was to provide a better understanding of export marketing and its processes. Distinguished speakers shared their expertise with the audience. This seminar consisted of a theoretical part where Mr. Spyros Ignaniadis, General manager of the Greek International Business Association (SEVE) presented "The export strategy of Greece", followed by Mr. Babis Filadarlis, CEO of Global Greece who made a very thorough presentation analysing the steps involved in "Export Marketing research". The second part of the event presented three case studies, namely "Wellabys SA, Kleemann SA and Olympia Electronics SA" that were presented by Mr Dimitrios Stratakis, Founder and CEO of Wellaby’s, Mr Vangelis Passalidis, Group Account Manager at Kleemann and Mr Babis Marmagelos, Commercial Director of Olympia Electronics, respectively. Participants had the opportunity to understand how the principles of export marketing are applied in practice and get valuable insights on the isuues exporters face.

Guest Lecture 'Influencing International Institutions and Lobbying'
Mr Dan Wheatley worked on global governance issues in Parliament for five years and is currently employed by the Bahá'í community of the UK as Senior Diplomatic Officer. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Sociology at the London programs of Arcadia and Syracuse universities, lecturing on British social history and multiculturalism. He has published a number of essays on human rights and global governance for such organisations as the Foreign Policy Centre, the Federal Trust and George Ronald Publishing. His forthcoming publication (May 2018) is addressing “Revolt on the Right, the Rise of Populism and Challenges to Globalisation.” In July of 1998 he attended the inter-governmental conference to establish the International Criminal Court. He has administered two all party Parliamentary Groups and regularly works with MPs, Peers, civil servants and Government Ministers.

Project Risk Management course for our Business Students
Third year bachelors students from the Business Administration and Economics Department of the International Faculty CITY College had the opportunity to attend a course on ‘Project Risk Management’ and get valuable insights from the unit leader, Mr. Athanasios Fourtounas Trainer, Economist and Director of Logistics in JLSG NATO (Italy). In this workshop-based course, Mr. Fourtounas discussed the principles and the procedures of Project Risk Management in business world according to PMI standards. During the first 2 days of the workshop, in addition to the theoretical knowledge participants also examined a number of real case studies but also a full scenario of a project where they executed the processes of Identify Stakeholders, How to create a Risk Management Plan and How to Identify Risks. The students had the opportunity to work in teams create a Risk Management plan which they presented at the conclusion of the workshop. The course proved to be an exceptional learning experience for our students.

IT Poster Exhibition and Competition by our Business Students
For the second year in a row a Poster Exhibition took place at our main campus in Thessaloniki, with second level business students participating and showcasing a creative series of posters on a range of IT-related topics. Themed ‘Decision Making with IT’ exhibition was organised in the frame of the homonymous unit (Decision Making with Technology) led by Dr Andrew Salisbury. Participating students were given themes from the class syllabus and asked to prepare an A1 poster and present it in class. The exhibition aimed at helping students learn and recycle the material from the exam and also to learn how to design informative posters for company presentations. The posters were displayed in the Auditorium, and many students and staff took the opportunity to visit the exhibition and admire our students’ work. Two leading IT companies StoneWave and 3DS were invited to judge the posters based on their own unique professional experience and chose the competition winners. Overall company representatives were impressed by our students’ creativity, ideas and professional approach. Competition Winning team Dimos Nikolaou Spyridon Chaidemenos Christos Chalevas Competition winners received their certificates and awards from Mr Iraklis Velissaridis, ELT Consultant at Express Publishing and Mr Vassilis Tsoulis, Director of Career, Employability and Enterprise Centre. In addition to certificates winners also received a presentation skills book from Express Publishing that supported this venture.

Successful three-day training to MTel managers by Mr Liassides in Bulgaria
On 6, 7, and 8 February 2018, Mr Chris Liassides, Senior Lecturer at the Business Department of the International Faculty delivered a three-day training seminar to a selected number of employees and managers of Mobitel (Mtel) in Sofia, Bulgaria. The trainees are part of the prestigious Talent's Club of the Bulgarian telecommunications company in question and the training was focused on strategic matters, entitled "Business Environment and Strategy". The trainees were eager to learn and appreciated very much the skills and knowledge that was delivered to them, in an effort to enhance their managerial potential. The successful seminar concluded with very positive feedback about the planning, organisation, as well as the delivery of the content of the specific topic. Congratulations to all the parties involved.

Christmas Mood On during Computing Skills for Business Class
With Christmas coming up, our business students brought some holiday cheer during the "Computing Skills for Business" unit while doing a revision quiz as a class on everything they have learned so far... The knowledge game concluded with three winners while one was the winner of the typing game, who was also awarded a prize for her success! Learning should be fun every now and then!

Guest Lecture on Corporate Reputation by the Marketing Director of A.I.D.A
On 7 December 2017, Ms Aida Nika, Managing Director of A.I.D.A Marketing & Business Development, delivered a very interesting guest lecture on ‘Creating, Promoting and Measuring Corporate Identity and Reputation' to the final year students attending the BA (Hons) in Business Studies (Management) at our Business Administration & Economics Department. Through her lively presentation Ms Nika outlined her company’s main services and shared with our students her experience and insights on building the corporate image, the ways companies manage their identity to differentiate themselves and the importance of reputation management. She also discussed the role of traditional and digital media in communication and marketing strategies. The event took place in the context of the ‘Developing & Managing Corporate Identity’ unit and gave the opportunity to students to get valuable insights from the real business world.

Marketing students develop viral adverts for Wellaby's
Following the company visit at Unismack, our final year marketing students completed a series of particularly creative viral adverts and videos for the Wellaby’s brand in the UK. The project was part of the ‘Integrated Marketing Communications’ unit led by Dr Ana Cruz, Lecturer at the Business Administration & Economics Department of the International Faculty CITY College. The viral adverts and videos developed by the students apply the theoretical principles and latest research on what makes content go viral online. This insightful, strategic and creative industrial project is part of a key effort to work closely with companies to develop the students’ employability and applied knowledge. Wellaby’s brand is manufactured in Greece by Unismack, a Greek company with innovative snack products. The company exports their products to over 11 countries and has become a success story. Marketing Students Competition in Effective Packaging
Final year marketing students of the Business Administration and Economics Department participated in groups in a Competition themed "Packaging That Sells From Theory to Practice" that was organised in context of the Integrated Marketing Communications module led by Dr. Ana Cruz. Students were asked to prepare a presentation and evaluate the packaging of an existing product. The winning team chose Redbull as the product for their packaging strategy and presentation, while the second team chose Trident Xtra Care. Congratulations to the winning team and to the runner up team as well to all participating students!
