Guest Lecture on Fake News for business students
Dr Panagiotis Paschalidis (PhD, Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle) delivered a guest lecture on ‘The Global Phenomenon of Fake News’ on November 10th 2017 inside the framework of the Business Administration and Economics Department module in International Politics. The successful lecture focused on current issues related to Fake News including definitions of 'post-factual' and 'alternative data' information and theories analyzing the phenomenon. Dr Paschalidis is a Research Fellow at the South-East Europe Programme of ELIAMEP since 2015 and a visiting lecturer at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications of the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki.

Guest Lecture by the Sales Director of Makedonia Palace on ‘Re-Making Makedonia Palace Hotel’ in Thessaloniki
A very interesting guest lecture took place on 20 November 2017 by Ms. Eva Saringala who was invited guest speaker by the Business Administration and Economics Department to deliver a lecture on ‘Re-making Makedonia Palace Hotel’. During her presentation Ms Saringala introduced the remake of Makedconia Palace – a landmark hotel of Thessaloniki – explaining the marketing strategy and all activities involved. As an experienced executive who has worked in top hotels in the UK, Ms Saringala brought valuable insights in the classroom for our business students. The guest lecture took place in the frame of the unit ‘Introduction to Marketing’. Guest lecturers bring outside knowledge and expertise in the classroom and expose students to new perspectives. Through guest lectures our students have the opportunity to meet top executives from the industry who share their experience and help students get a feel of the real business world.

Business students visit Thessaloniki’s Courthouse
On 16 November 2017 students from our Business Administration & Economics Department went on a field trip to Thessaloniki’s Courthouse in the context of the ‘Introduction to Law’ unit, led by Ms Tania Mavridou. During the visit at Thessaloniki's Courthouse the students attended a criminal trial process which was a useful experience as it allowed them to understand how the law works in practice. Watching an economic crime case (fraud) from beginning to the delivery of the judges' verdict, the students gained an insight into the process that is applied in criminal legal cases. The court visit also gave the students the opportunity to have a better understanding of the different roles and responsibilities of the individuals involved in the proceedings.

Guest Lecture by Athenian Brewery representative
On 8 November 2017, the International Faculty CITY College had the pleasure to host a guest lecture under the umbrella of “Sales Management” unit, from Athenian Brewery SA. The guest speaker Mr Nikos Koufokotsios, Wholesales’ Key Account Representative at Athenian Brewery SA, gave a keynote speech on sales techniques and operations. During his presentation he shared experience on everyday activities and cooperation with other company departments. More specifically the speaker thoroughly addressed how their sales department actually operates, intradepartmental communication and also problems that a company faces along the way. The students were very interested in his speech and after the conclusion of his presentation they had the opportunity to address many questions to the guest speaker. Guest lectures are a vital part of the educational process at the International Faculty and serve as a way to enrich our students with the latest industry updates while at the same time bring in the classroom insights from the real business world.

Chick-Fil-A returns to the International Faculty for a Successful Business Seminar on Leadership
The Chik-Fil-A team revisited the International Faculty CITY College to deliver another successful business seminar under the title “A pathway to successful leadership: The SERVE leadership Model, CSR & Sustainability aspects”. The event was hosted at the International Faculty’s main campus in Thessaloniki, 6 November 2017. For one more year a Chick-Fil-A team visited the International Faculty to present their leadership model, SERVE The five speakers, some of them representing the company and some being restaurant owners, spoke on “The Secret of Great Leaders” and presented Chick-Fil-A SERVE model. More specifically as identified by the its acronym, the speakers shared their views on how great leaders Sea and shape the future, Engage and develop others, Reinvent continuously, Value results and relationships and Embody the values. There was also thorough presentation of their business strategy through videos and interactive Q&As. The company’s competitive advantage is their organisational culture that holds on to their “Our Pleasure” approach. The speakers also focused on their CSR practices with specific examples on local ownerships and support of local communities, donations to different organizations, recycling and the gradual transformation of their products to organic ones. Before closing the event, the speakers invited the students (2nd level business students attending the event in the frame of ‘Sustainable Development’ unit) to ask their questions and those who did were also rewarded with company gifts. It is the seventh time for the International Faculty to host the Chick Fil A leadership seminar. The event was organised by the Business Administration and Economics Department (BAED) and the Career, Enterprise and Employability Centre of the International Faculty and is in line with our mission to bring academia closer to the industry. About Chick Fil A Chick-Fil-A is an American fast food restaurant chain headquartered in the Atlanta suburb of College Park, Georgia, specializing in chicken sandwiches. Founded in May 1946, it has more than 2,000 restaurants, mainly in the southeastern United States. The company's culture is influenced by its founder Truett Cathy's Southern Baptist beliefs; all Chick-Fil-A restaurants are closed for business on Sunday as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas. In 2010 Chick-Fil-A took the industry lead in average sales per restaurant, making an average of $2.7 million per restaurant (McDonald's was second with $2.4 million per restaurant). It also features in many top 10 US brand lists.

Digital marketing real-life project for the Hellenic Children’s Village by business students
Our business students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in digital marketing and at the same time give back to society with the real-life project they took with the Hellenic Children’s Village, a non-profitable organisation in Filiro, Thessaloniki. Dr Lappas with the group of our business students Students will simulate a consulting project where they will be in contact with the management of the organisation and act as marketing consultants. For the needs of the project, representatives from the Greek Children’s Village will visit the International Faculty CITY College for consulting sessions and students will be provided with the opportunity to visit the Greek Children’s Village in Filyro and interact with its executives and children. Once the project is completed the best two projects will be presented to the management of the organisation. When the digital strategy for 2018 is decided, students may contribute through fund raising activities to the implementation of the digital campaign. This is the first real life, CSR-related project undertaken by the Business administration and Economics Department. Our students will benefit both from gaining professional experience by engaging in this real-life project and offer support for a non-charitable organization through volunteer work. Dr Alexios Lappas, Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist and Scientific Consultant at the Greek Children’s Village in Filyro commented: “I was more than happy to meet and cooperate with such a motivated group of students that engaged with the project! They demonstrated admirable empathy towards the issue of Child Protection and Care and we are looking forward to meet them on the premises of our Village for the second phase of the project.” The project is overviewed by Mr Stelios Kehaghias, Senior Lecturer and Mr Alex Charalampidis, Lecturer at the Business Administration and Economics Department and is in line with the International Faculty’s committment to give back to society and educate its students accordingly.

A tasty company visit to Unismack by our Business Students
Final year marketing students of the Business Administration and Economics Department participated in a ‘tasty’ company visit at Unismack and their brand Wellaby’s. Unismack is a Greek company exporting their innovative snack products to over 11 countries worldwide. It is worth mentioning that one of the company's founders, Mr Alexandros Stratakis is an alumnus of the International Faculty CITY College. During their visit the students visited the manufacturing facility and tried their freshly baked snacks out of the manufacturing line; a truly tasty experience. They also had a presentation by the commercial manager and the Managing director where they explained the company strategy, branding and their marketing communications approach. The visit is part of the unit Integrated Marketing communications lead by Dr. Ana Cruz. Viral video ads student project In the unit the students developed an Integrated Marketing Communications plan and a viral video/advert for the Wellaby’s brand in the UK market. This insightful, strategic, creative and informative visit is part of a key effort to work closely with industry and clients to develop the students’ employability and applied knowledge.

Company Visit to Unismack (Wellaby’s) by Business students
In November 2017 all final year marketing track students will participate in a company visit to Unismack. This is a Greek company with innovative snack products. The company exports their products to over 11 countries and has become a success story. During their visit the students will visit the manufacturing facility, attend a presentation on the company, the brand, its marketing and communication strategies. They will also try their delicious products. The visit is part of the unit Integrated Marketing communications where the students will develop an Integrated Marketing Communications plan and a viral video/advert for the Wellaby’s brand in the UK market. A tasty project indeed. Students will be accompanied by their Integrated Marketing Communications unit leader, Dr. Ana Cruz.
