Business student and graduate coursework among the best in the world at the Undergraduate Awards 2017
Warm congratulations to International Faculty student and graduate, Giorgos Ioakeimidis (Greece) and Sanja Arsova (Skopje), who excelled in the international Undergraduate Awards Programme 2017 and were Highly Commended in the Business and Economics category respectively, ranking in the top 10% of all submissions worldwide. Ms Sanja Arsova Mr Giorgos Ioakeimidis This is an outstanding achievement at an international level, considering that the Undergraduate Awards (UA), the largest academic awards programme in the world, received 6,432 submissions from students in 299 Institutions across 47 countries this year alone. Sanja’s and Giorgo’s work was identified by the Undergraduate Awards as among the best undergraduate coursework globally. As a Highly Commended Entrants of The Undergraduate Awards Sanja and Giorgos are still in the running to be the Global Winner of their category, which will be announced on September 19th. Our student and graduate have been invited to attend the UA Global Summit 2017, that will gather 150 of Highly Commended Entrants and Global Winners in Dublin, Ireland between November 7th-9th. Sanja made her way to the top 10% of UA submissions in Economics with her paper entitled "Currency and Economic Crises: The Role of I.M.F. and the Exchange Rate Regimes" that she compiled as coursework for the module of International Financial Management led by Mr. Petros Golitsis, Lecturer at our Business Administration & Economics Department. It is worth noting that this is the second year in a row for Sanja to be shortlisted as ‘Highly Commended Entrants’ at the Undergraduate Awards, since last year she ranked in the top 10% submissions in the Business category. Sanja commented: "This academic achievement in international scale is an auxiliary acknowledgement of the academic excellence, in-depth research and transfer of knowledge that the International Faculty CITY College provides to its students. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College and the academic staff for their commitment to quality education and continuous development of their students. It was an honour for me to study in such an educational institution that fosters an environment where students acquire not only specialised knowledge, but also a strong basis for their personal, social and cognitive development. I am genuinely proud to be part of the International Faculty Alumni Network". Giorgos made it to the top 10% of UA submissions in Business by submitting a paper on ‘Financial Innovation and the Shadow Banking System’ under the supervision of Mr Michalis Samarinas, Lecturer at our Business Administration & Economics Department. "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Undergraduate Awards' committee for selecting me as Highly Commended in the Business Category. I am so humbled to have been nominated for this award knowing that there were many qualified applicants. The International Industrial Advisory Board Annual Meeting 2017
Bridging the gap between academia and industry On Thursday, 29 June 2017 the International Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) of the Business Administration and Economics Department held its annual meeting at the main campus of the International Faculty in Thessaloniki, Greece. The Board which consists of 18 members, all well respected experts in the business world, meets in a plenary session once every year. Many interesting and challenging topics were on the agenda and discussed thoroughly during Board meeting. Overall, the Board commented on our programmes’ correspondence to the market’s needs and trends, adding that our students and graduates’ knowledge and skills is a great proof of our industry-led curricula. The Industrial Advisory Board of the Business Administration and Economics Department at the International Faculty, CITY College aims to facilitate communication and collaboration with the industry in the Balkan area, in order to meet the objective of developing high calibre graduates, well-equipped to pursue successful careers. Each member of the Advisory Board contributes a valuable professional perspective from years of hands-on professional experience. Thus, the Industrial Advisory Board enables the International Faculty, CITY College to keep abreast of regional and global trends and incorporate them in its mission and practices. Mr Liassides and Ms Sfouri participate in Goethe’s ‘Cultural Management Academy’ in Thessaloniki
Mr Chris Liassides, Senior Lecturer and Director of Postgraduate Studies and Ms Violetta Sfouri, Senior Lecturer at our Business Administration and Economics Department participated as invited speakers in the ‘Cultural Management Academy’ organised by Goethe Institut in Thessaloniki, 26-30 June 2017. Mr Liassides suggested types of communication that make campaigns for the promotion of cultural projects effective and discussed ways to make the campaign messages stronger. In her presentation, Ms Sfouri talked about the necessary procedures that need to be followed towards an innovative approach in the creation of cultural content. Both presentations were particularly successful, attracted participants’ attention and generated interesting discussions. The well-attended Academy aims at engaging participants from both public and independent sector in an experience that will develop their capacity of understanding the context for cultural strategies, offer skills to work with public documents on cultural policies, and strengthen relations between the independent sector and the public one. Goethe’s Cultural Management Academy is supported by the International Faculty CITY College.

Ms Papakonstantinou presents paper at International Conference on Education in Lisbon
Ms Aggeliki Papakonstantinou, Senior Lecturer and Academic Undergraduate Director of the Business Administration and Economics Department of the International Faculty CITY College presented at the International Conference on Education and New Developments that took place in Lisbon, 24-26 June 2017. The paper submitted to the Conference was written together with Dr. Suzie Savvidou, Director of Undergraduate Programmes in Psychology & Clinical Placements at the Psychology Department of the International Faculty, CITY College, and presented successfully to an international community of educators. The title of the research is Eyes wide open: exploring faculty perceptions about student progression and retention in higher education. The research was warmly accepted by the audience and they encouraged the authors to continue in a wider scale. Our lecturers often participate in various International Conferences all over the world, present their research work and liaise with other academics and promote the dissemination of knowledge. The International Conference on Education and New Developments - END is a high impact International Conference which accepts 30% of the submitted papers and runs under the umbrella of the World Institute for Advanced Research and Science (WIARS). It attracts educators who are interested in research methods related to teaching, learning and applications and aims at promoting growth in research methods intimately related to teaching, learning and applications in Education nowadays.

Supply Chain Management students take ‘Olympia Electronics Challenge’
Our postgraduate students attending the MSc in Management (Logistics & Supply Chain Management) took the ‘Olympia Electronics Challenge’, a business challenge set by one of the biggest companies in electronic safety and security systems in Northern Greece. A group of students made a visit at the premises of Olympia Electronics able to see how logistics management is applied in a working setting. After that the students where given a brief, including detailed information about the company -and specific tasks and topics. Students were asked to provide their analysis, practical ideas to be implemented the company as well as foresee possible dangers and threats. Students prepared their pitch and presented their work to company representatives. The projects were presented to Mrs Sissy Fotopoulou, Supply Chain Manager at Olympia Electronics, while Dr Adrian Solomon, Lecturer at our Business Department and leader of the logistics unit, was present via Skype from Sheffield (UK). Our students had the opportunity to benefit from working on real-life projects for a big company like Olympia Electronics. This real-life experience is part of the fully industry-integrated teaching and assessment approach provided by this module of the MSc in Management (Logistics & Supply Chain Management) programme of the International Faculty. Company visits enhance the direct connection and collaboration with dynamic and extrovert companies like Olympia Electronics. Students and alumni who have previously passed through this experience are now working at big corporations such as Henkel, Mondelez, Coca-Cola,Kuehne-Nagel, LIDL, etc in the supply chain field. About Olympia Electronics Olympia Electronics was founded in 1979.The company is active in developing innovative electronic safety and security systems by using state of the art technology. The Human resource of Olympia Electronics is 174 employees, with 10% in R & D dept. The company is the dominant Greek enterprise in the electronics safety and security industry. Olympia Electronics' products are exported in 72 countries worldwide.

Guest Lecture by U.S. Consul General in Thessaloniki
On 12 May 2017 the International Faculty CITY College had the honour to host a guest lecture by US Consul General in Thessaloniki, Ms Rebecca A. Fong. Students of the Business Administration & Economics Department had the opportunity to attend a valuable guest lecture by Ms. Fong, entitled ‘My diplomatic experience’. In her inspiring presentation, Ms Fong shared her invaluable knowledge and experience with the students from her long career as diplomat, providing first-hand insights. Prior to her assignment to Thessaloniki, as a career Foreign Service Officer, Ms. Fong has served at the U.S. Consulate in Herat, Afghanistan; the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria; the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan; the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq; the U.S. Embassy in Manama, Bahrain and as the Advisor on Financial and Investment Affairs at the U.S. Mission to OECD in Paris, France. During her public service career she also served in Algeria, Russia, Croatia and Italy. Prior to joining the State Department Ms. Fong was the Vice President of International Operations for The Gap. Our business students showed particular interest in this guest lecture as they were given the chance to meet Ms Fong who wholeheartedly spoke to them about her journey in diplomacy.

Opening Speech by Dr Nikolaidis at the Pan European event 'Free Market Road Show 2017'
Dr Dimitrios Nikolaidis was honoured to open with an inspiring keynote speech the Thessaloniki event of the Free Market Road Show 2017, a Pan European event that takes place in 45 European cities. In Thessaloniki the event,themed 'The World after Brexit and Trump' took place 9 May 2017 at the Ceremony Hall of Aristotle University with Dr Nikolaidis welcoming all guests and set the stage for the presentations that followed. In his opening speech Dr Nikolaidis, highlighted the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in turbulent times, noting that it is time for action and that significant changes are required, if the society wants to build a promising future. The event was well attended by representatives of the industry, academics and university students. About the 10th Annual Free Market Road Show The Austrian Economics Center (AEC), in cooperation with over 100 leading think-tanks and universities across Europe and the Caucasus, and in association with international partners such as the Global Philanthropic Trust, Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, Americans for Tax Reform, Competitive Enterprise Institute, World Taxpayers Associations, European Students for Liberty, and the F.A. v. Hayek Institut, organise the 10th Annual Free Market Road Show, which tours from March 16th to May 22nd through 45 capitals in Europe and Caucasus – from Scandinavia to Montenegro, from Spain to the Ukraine.

Mr Liassides delivers insightful presentation on GAMIFICATION
Mr. Chris Liassides, Director of the Postgraduate programmes of the Business and Economics Department at the International Faculty, CITY College, delivered an insightful presentation on Gamification. The presentation took place in the frame of the successful event entitled ‘Gamification: Gaming as Marketing Tool’ organised by the Marketing Club of the Thessaloniki TEI at THE MET Hotel in Thessaloniki. Mr Liassides focused his presentation on the Gamification approach that is revolutionising the field of Marketing. He covered several elements of gamification and discussed its philosophy and practices in Greek and Cypriot enterprises. He also presented a step-by-step process for its application. The second speaker of the event, Mr Vassilis Gogidis, Gamification+ and Representative of International Gamification Federation in Greece also shared valuable insights with the audience. The event was very successful overall, received positive response and attracted high profile marketers and entrepreneurs as well as university students interested to keep up with innovative trends of marketing and management.
