Presenting the 'MentBest' project at Thessaloniki City Hall - Promoting our commitment to mental well-being
The MentBest event, held at Thessaloniki City Hall, underscored our collective commitment to mental well-being. Esteemed participants included Deputy Mayor Efi Theodoraki, mental health professionals, social workers, police and church representatives. Dr. Ana Vivas not only presented but also led the event, guiding discussions on advanced mental health solutions. Among these was the spotlight on the 'I Fight Depression' programme, an innovative online tool designed for self-managing mild to moderate depression symptoms. The event, enriched by the coordination of Georgia Papaioannou and Christina Katsoridou, showcased our holistic approach to mental health challenges. This assembly at a key municipal venue demonstrates the multifaceted approach necessary for addressing mental health challenges effectively.

A successful 'Free Memory Test Day' by CITY College, Alzheimer Hellas and the YMCA
A successful event with a substantial turnout in Thessaloniki More than 100 people had the opportunity to do a free preventive memory test A great opportunity for our student volunteers from the postgraduate programmes in Cognitive Neuropsychology and Clinical Neuropsychology of CITY College who participated in the activity to put their knowledge into practice, as well as offer to the community. The Free Memory Test Day organised by CITY College, University of York Europe Campus, the Hellenic Society of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (Alzheimer Hellas) and YMCA was held with great success and large attendance on Wednesday, 20 March 2024 at the premises of YMCA in Thessaloniki. More than 100 people had the opportunity to do a free preventive memory test and receive the results and corresponding instructions. The supervision of the event was undertaken by Ms Georgia Papaioannou, Lecturer in Neuropsychology at the Department of Psychology of CITY College and Ms Magda Ouzouni, Psychologist at Alzheimer Hellas. Student volunteers from the postgraduate programmes in Cognitive Neuropsychology and Clinical Neuropsychology of CITY College also participated in the activity and had the chance to put their knowledge into practice as well as offer to the community. The event was attended by Dr Madga Tsolaki, Neurologist-Psychiatrist-Theologist Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and President of the President of the Panhellenic Federation of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders, Dr Suzie Savvidou, Head of the Psychology Department of CITY College, Dr Manousos Klados, Associate Professor of the Psychology Department of CITY College, Ms Aristi Tzoni, Directorate for Action and Social Offer of YMCA, as well as other representatives of the three organising bodies. The Free Memory Test Day took place in the context of the social responsibility action of CITY College, Alzheimer Hellas and YMCA with the aim of promoting the prevention of dementia and Alzheimer's disease, as well as informing the public and raising awareness. Our Psychology students explored the illusionary world at Thessaloniki's Museum of Illusions
Our first year Psychology students had the opportunity to explore the illusionary world during their visit to the Museum of Illusions in Thessaloniki with PhD Candidate and part-time lecturer Nena Evgeniadou. A great opportunity to enter the fascinating world of optical illusions, deepen their understanding of working and visual perception, as well as the crucial role of the brain in visual perception, which is taught in the Sensation & Perception module.

Ποιος μπορεί να συμμετέχει Οι ενδιαφερόμενοι (άνω των 55 ετών) θα έχουν τη δυνατότητα να κάνουν δωρεάν προληπτικό έλεγχο μνήμης με τη χρήση κατάλληλων ειδικών τεστ. Οι συμμετέχοντες θα ενημερώνονται επιτόπου σχετικά με την αξιολόγηση του τεστ και θα τους δίνονται οι αντίστοιχες οδηγίες. Δεν απαιτείται η κράτηση θέσης. Τα τεστ θα διενεργούνται στις εγκαταστάσεις της Χ.Α.Ν.Θ. με σειρά προτεραιότητας κατα την προσέλευση. Διάρκεια εξέτασης Τα τεστ θα διαρκούν 10-15 λεπτά και θα γίνονται με μορφή ερωταπαντήσεων. CITY College Europe Campus signs Memorandum of Understanding with "G. Papanikolaou" General Hospital of Thessaloniki
A dynamic collaboration with one of the biggest general hospitals of the city of Thessaloniki. The aims of the collaboration include internship opportunities for Psychology postgraduate students. CITY College, University of York Europe Campus signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with "G. Papanikolaou" General Hospital of Thessaloniki, thus commencing a new dynamic collaboration with one of the biggest general hospitals of the city of Thessaloniki. The aims of the cooperation are to provide internship opportunities for students (primarily from our Psychology Department) - a valuable learning experience, allowing them to gain practical experience in a real-world healthcare setting - facilitate research activities and knowledge, promote social responsibility, and encourage joint activities between the two parties and many more. Overall, this new partnership a significant step towards fostering a culture of collaboration between academia and the local community, for the benefit of students, patients and the region as a whole.

Event on Psychosis by our Psychology Department
Our Psychology Department organised an event on psychosis giving our students the opportunity to learn about early intervention in psychosis from the expertise of Mr Athanasios Xafenias, Psychiatrist, and Ms Matina Tzouvara, Psychologist, both affiliated with pnoes.skg unit. The students gained valuable insights into this critical area of mental health care, which focuses on identifying and treating individuals in the early stages of psychosis. The speakers' insightful presentation provided a comprehensive understanding of the symptoms, causes, and treatment options for early-stage psychosis. The event was warmly appreciated by the audience. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our esteemed speakers for their valuable contribution to our students' education.

Psychology students visit the Forensics Anatomy Lab of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
A group of 70 students from the Psychology Department of CITY College, University of York Europe Campus, had the extraordinary experience to visit the Forensics Anatomy Lab of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on Friday 8th December 2023. Led by Dr. Aristea Ladas and PhD student Nena Evgeneiadou, our students had the privilege to witness a captivating presentation by Professor George Paraskevas, the lab's Director. The students were given a fascinating tour of the human body, which included an interactive session with various organs and vessels. Additionally, they had the opportunity to explore the Bones Museum, set to open soon. Psychologists are trained elaborately on the human psychological aspects and their interaction with the physical ones. The experience offered our students a deeper understanding of the physical nature of humans, which complemented their existing knowledge of human psychology. This visit left everyone with a deep admiration of the perfection of the human bpdy. We would like to thank Prof. Paraskevopoulos for sharing his amazing anatomy knowledge and enthusiasm on anatomy.

Dr Megari participates in Self-Defense Workshop organised by YMCA
Dr. Kalliopi Megari, Academic Director of our postgraduate programme in Clinical Psychology, participated as speaker in a Self-Defense Workshop organised by YMCA Thessaloniki and Mr Stavros Tarabatzidis in the context of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Dr Megari talked about the psychological dangers hidden in a physical or psychological attack and answered participants' questions.
