Business Student launches innovative website Digital4youth
Business student of the International Faculty, CITY College, Anastasia Akimenko, recently launched an innovative website ‘digital4youth’, a platform specifically created for students with passion in digital marketing and online tools. Through Digital4youth users can create and share their own work as well as seek for other students’ and young professionals’ knowledge in this field. Anastasia created this website with the intention for it to be a knowledge database where young people can share and find interesting and well-written articles about digital marketing. “Digital4youth can be a great way to collect all this knowledge and help students and young professionals in their development process. I call it as 'P2P' or 'professional to professional'” says Anastasia and continues: “Digital4youth.com is the first digital community for knowledge exchange amongst young professionals. Nowadays, the words 'digital transformation' can be found in, literally, all industries, which emphasise the importance of this topic. Transformation of education for tech savvy generations is another issue that should be addressed. Digital4youth is the experience of sharing and getting necessary knowledge in a simple and easy way." Setting up ‘digital4youth’ proved more challenging than expected as Anastasia says describing her experience and lessons learnt in the way “I realised the real difficulty of creating something from scratch. On paper your idea is usually looks simple. However, when you start putting everything together a number of unpredicted parameters and details appear. These tiny obstacles make your life complicated on the one hand, and improve your final outcome on the other.” Anastasia is a 2nd level student at the BA (Hons) in Business Studies (Marketing) programme offered by CITY College, International Faculty of the University of Sheffield.

Psychology student from the UK talks about her study years at the International Faculty, CITY College, in Thessaloniki
Our student, Amelia Fox attending the MA in Counselling Psychology with a Practicum shares her study experience with us. Read what she had to say about her studies and life in Thessaloniki: "In October 2016 I moved from the UK to Thessaloniki to start my Masters in Counselling Psychology with a Practicum at the university of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College. Thessaloniki is much larger than the city I completed my Bachelors in back in the UK. It is an exciting city with a great community feeling and is an excellent place to be a student. There are many apartments in the city for students and staff at CITY College are always ready to help international students find a place to live. My apartment was right in the centre, a short walk from the sea front and the Ladadika District, where there are tavernas with wonderful, reasonably priced Greek food. Thessaloniki has an amazing night life and is a great place for both shopping and sight seeing. The Student Union of CITY College plan many events for the students, I took part in the Alexander the Great 5k Marathon with some friends. This is something I used to do back in the UK so was glad to have the opportunity to continue in Greece. During the weekends and holidays I travelled to many places in Greece outside of Thessaloniki. Within the first year I visited Athens, Meteora, Mt. Olympus, Edessa, the beaches of Halkidiki and some of the beautiful Greek Islands. Most of these can be accessed by the Thessaloniki main bus station or student trips. There are many sites to see in Thessaloniki and learn about the history including the Arch of Galerius, Rotunda, White Tower, Umbrellas, Castle and Churches. Many of my friends and family from the UK visited throughout the summer and we visited many of beaches close to Thessaloniki and it was very easy to travel to the beaches in Halkidiki. There are different activities to do in Thessaloniki including renting bikes at the water front, bar cruises, a waterpark and the escape rooms. The International Faculty, CITY College has different sites across the city which provide good facilities, my course is well organised and the staff and lecturers are always extremely supportive and helpful. I have met some amazing friends from different countries at the University and I also adopted a Greek kitten who I brought back with me to live in England. Thessaloniki has a great atmosphere and is a beautiful city to live, I am happy I made the decision to study abroad, it has been a great experience and I would definitely encourage others to study in Greece." Amelia is now back in the UK doing her counselling placement with young adults.

Our students create their own VIDEO-CV
On 2nd and 3rd of March students at the International Faculty had the chance to experience one of the most innovative new trends of employment hiring: Video CV. With the support of ergazomenos.gr experts, students who participated learnt how to build and enhance their own VIDEO- CVs, through one to one coaching sessions. Ergazomenos.gr experts shared tips, like eye contact, preparing on the answers before the shooting, distressing techniques and how to focus for the best possible result. Our students learnt how to make a creative job application that will help them stand out of the crowd. With a Video-CV a candidate has an opportunity to present himself professionally, drawing attention to his accomplishments, experience and skills which tend to be a strong factor for the hiring process. The VIDEO-CV training was organised by the Career, Employability and Enterprise Centre of the International Faculty, CITY College.
