All classes move online

CITY College announces that it moves all classes online in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. Like the very best universities around the world, we have taken the decision to deliver our teaching on-line without further delay.We are committed to the well-being of all our students and staff. At such difficult times, it is vital that we remember what is important and to take the necessary actions to ensure that the CITY College community and those around us are able to live and work without causing undue risks to health. At the same time, we need to respond and adapt by giving the opportunity to our students to continue with their top-quality education. The majority of the online classes commence on Wednesday, 18 March 2020 and gradually within the next few days will expand to all programmes and locations. We are extremely fortunate to have in place the technology and expertise to be able to offer our top-quality education provision on-line to ensure that students are able to progress with their studies without delaying their progress. CityMUN delegates to participate in London International MUN Conference

CityMUN Co-Presidents, Stefani Spasenoska and Sofija Spasenoska will participate in the upcoming London International MUN Conference that will take place 20-21 February. The opening ceremony will take place on Friday in Westminster Hall and the first day of committee sessions, will take place in King's College London. Sofija will run the UN Environmental Programme committee of 90 delegates and Stefani will run the UN Developmental Programme committee of 60 delegates. Moreover, Saturday the committee sessions will continue until the evening, after which there will be a black tie ball in the Connaught Rooms. Lastly, Sunday the final committee sessions will take place while the event will be completed with a closing ceremony. Following the ceremony, there will be another event for the Chairs, Secretariat, Guest Speakers and the Board of Trustees. Exposure and participation in international events are always a great experience for our students. Wishing both Stefani and Sofija best success in the roles they have assumed in the event.

Aid by CITY College arrives in Albania

We are happy to announce that the aid collected by CITY College and our Students’ Union (CSU) after the earthquake in Albania reached its destination. The packages were delivered in Lezha municipality in the presence of the Director of Social Services of the Municipality.  Additionally the financial aid collected was deposited at the bank account of Raiffeisen of the Ministry of Economics and Finance of Albania. All of us at CITY College hope that our contribution will be a small relief to the people affected.

Guest Lecture by the Head of Eurobank FPS in Northern Greece by the Finance Club

Mr. Constantinos Vlachos, Head of Eurobank FPS, AGM in Northern Greece was invited to share his valuable insights with our students in a informative guest lecture that was successfully organised by students of our Finance Club on 26 November 2019 at CITY College’s main campus in Thessaloniki. Mr. Vlachos discussed the topic “Non Performing Loans (NPLs/NPEs) in Greece today” and shared his views about the present situation with NLPs. Students found the lecture very useful and engaging. The Finance Club is comprised by and addressed to students interested in Finance and frequently organised events to create opportunities for students to get acquainted with interesting finance-related topics. Dr Petros Golitsis acts as mentor of the Finance Club.

City’s MUN joins SheffMUN Conference at the University of Sheffield, UK

A group of enthusiastic students from City’s MUN travelled to Sheffield to join the Sheffield International United Nations Model (SheffMUN) Conference that took place 15-17 November 2019 at the University of Sheffield, UK. The Conference set off with the opening ceremony and the first day of committee sessions. All the delegates from CityMUN had very good debates within their committees and contributed significantly to find solutions on the given problems. The next days followed with committee sessions, while a social event, pizza and pub quiz were also included in the agenda! SheffMUN concluded with the final committee session and the closing ceremony. All CITY College delegates were praised on their preparations. In particular, our delegate in the UNODC committee representing Columbia, Sonia Porej, received an honorable mention at the closing ceremony. All delegates of CITYMUN at the SheffMUN got certificates as recognition for their participation. The delegates and their committees were as follows: Sofija Spasenoska as the Chair of the UN Women committee Stefani Spasenoska as the Chair of the UNEP committee Dimitris Kokkalis as the co-Chair of the Security Council Rona Bajrami as the Rebublic of Venezulea in the UNODC committee Sonia Porej as the Republic of Columbia in the UNODC committee Altine Morina as the Republic of South Korea in the UNEP committee Lefterica Zhidro as the Republic of Turkey in the Security Council  The fellow Sheffield MUN society were very happy to meet with delegated from City’sMUN, further extending the collaboration between the two societies. The participation to SheffMUN proved an exciting experience for our students and set the ground for more common activities and initiations with Sheffield MUN.

A dynamic start by our MUN Club for this academic year

CITY MUN started dynamically for academic year 2019-2020. Led by two passionate Presidents, Ms Sofija Spasenoska and Ms Stefani Spasenoska, the Club welcomed new delegates and set the ground for this year’s activities. During the first two meetings a general MUN introduction took place, while MUN debate structure and also the rules of procedures were discussed. CITY MUN aims at  providing students with an opportunity to better understand the world of diplomacy and international affairs, as well as the dynamics of the United Nations while promises a unique academic experience, while promises an an opportunity to build friendships and network in a dynamic atmosphere. New members of CITY’s MUn include three new Secretaries: Anda Vokshi, Secretary of Trainings Liburn Parashtica, Secretary of Marketing Diana Dokolli, second member of the Secretary of Finances In the context of United Nations simulation participating students will be able to promote their research skills, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. The fist activity of the club will be the participation of a group of students in Sheffield’s MUN conference! It looks like an exciting academic year ahead for our CITY MUN students!

1st Gaming Tournament at CITY College

The 1st Gaming Tournament at CITY College took place on Saturday 9 Novembers 2019 at Seven Spots gaming store. The group of student-gamers who participated and competed with each other enjoyed the Mortal Kombat 11 tournament. Petros Aleksikos battled his way to the top and became the winner of the Tournament. The winner received a money prize and also a Funko Pop figure. All participants had fun during the Tournament and are looking forward to the next one! The Tournament was organised by students of CITY College’s Gaming Club.
